Working with Ali as a dance collaborator is a delight! Her willingness to explore and play is just what I need. Her highly technical dancing and generous heart makes her an irreplaceable performer in my work!
Ali doesn't just move with balance and fluidity, she has a great ability to transfer that energy. I work at a computer all day and have a long history of sports injuries so my muscles and tendons often feel bunched up and unyielding. But after an hour or hour and a half session, I feel more range of motion, lighter, and refreshed. There's the amazing sense of relaxation while Ali is working, and then the lasting effects felt long after the session has ended.
Because of her experience as a professional dancer, she has the knowledge & intuition that your typical therapist does not. The way I feel after Ali's session is proof of that. I walk in with aches & pains and leave feeling great! Ali is a real caring professional who uses a holistic approach to make your massage experience the best.

About me

Ali Fischer started her Somatic Movement Education (SME) career as a modern dancer trained in Limon Technique. Today she blends her 16 years experience as a professional dancer, 12 years as a yoga teacher, and 17 years as a bodyworker to create workshop classes and one-on-one therapy sessions to meet the needs of her clients and students.

As a dancer, Ali received her BA in modern dance in 1995 from the University of South Florida. Since then she has worked with choreographers across the country. Some of these artists and dance companies include: Allyson Greene, Lindsey Dietz Marchant, Malashock Dance, Eun Jung Choi-Gonzalez, DaDa Dance, McCaleb Dance, Lost Wax, Lower Left Collective, Leanne Schimdt & Company, Elizabeth Swallow, Erin Cardinal Wright, Danny Shapiro & Joanie Smith, Lynne Wimmer, Repertory Dance Theater, Zvi Gotheiner, DIkayl Remash, Gina Kohler, John Beasant III, and Elsa Valbuena.

As a yogi, Ali studied with Peri Ness of Synergy Yoga in Encinitas, CA and graduated in 2004. She is a certified teacher and uses Hatha yoga for her personal practice and one-on-one sessions.

As a bodyworker, Ali began her training in San Diego, CA, in 1999, at the School of Healing Arts and Pacific College of Oriental Medicine; she studied Chinese Medical Massage, Shiatsu, Acupressure, Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue and Acupuncture. At this time, she also apprenticed with Dr. Rick Gold, renowned acupuncturist. At PCOM and with Dr. Gold, she learned the chinese meridian maps and theories of organ systems and integrates this knowledge into sessions. In New York City, Ali studied at the Swedish Institute and with Carrie Taylor Techniques. Her current focus is blending myofascial techniques with acupressure and trigger point work. Ali is New York State licensed and nationally certified to practice massage therapy.

As a biodynamic craniosacral practitioner, she began her studies with Dr. Michael Shea in New York City in 2007. While studying with Dr. Shea, she also began to study Gaga technique (an approach to movement created by Israeli choreographer, Ohad Nahrin) with Danielle Agami, former Batsheva Dance company member and United States ambassador for Gaga technique. The ideologies of Gaga and craniosacral therapy have helped lead her to the shaping process of Biodynamic Movement, BDM, and guide her in daily movement/meditation personal practice.

As a choreographer, Ali has intermittently choreographed dance pieces throughout her life. Ali is currently most interested building structures that invite presence for the performer and the audience. She explores creating pieces with a palette of premeditated choices that allow freedom of timing, order, and space. Her intention is to make an environment that is conducive for the art of presence. This approach virtually makes it impossible for a dance to "arrive" in a fixed product and can serve as a way for participants to orient what is happening in any given moment. The daringness, honesty, magic, unknown, seen and unseen that can happen in a present time choreographic structure inspires her dance-making.

Ali received her MA in Dance and Somatic Movement Education from University of Central Lancashire (Britain) in 2015. She is a member of ISMETA (International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association) and teaches in NYC at Moving Body Resources. Somatic Movement Education informs Ali as an artist/healer and continues to direct her approach to improving the lives of her students and clients.

Ali is a skilled professional and caring person with a healing touch. Her kindness and empathy were a highlight for me while participating in Craniosacral thearpy sessions with her. I found it easy to relax with Ali during my sessions. She listened carefully to my past and present experiences before and after my sessions. My work with Ali benefited me on a deeper level. Not only were these benefits physical, but also emotional and spiritual.
