I teach yoga as a way of life, a way of being and as a way of practicing self-love. Awareness-Acceptance-Transformation from the outside in.
Amit Heri is an acclaimed musician, yogi and traveler, seeking to experience and understand the wonder of nature in its myriad layers - external/internal, gross/subtle, physical/divine.
His intention with teaching yoga is to share the wisdom of the ancient tradition of yoga with the purpose of empowering people to overcome negativity and to stay connected with the positive aspects of nature.
His clear-cut and compassionate method empowers students to attain greater awareness, clarity and consciousness in their practice and in their lives. His teachings stem out of his own experience with yoga as a transformational process – from shifting ignorance, ego, attachment, aversion and fear – based thinking to a more conscious, peaceful and trusting outlook.
Growing up in Bangalore, India, his interest in yoga was kindled at the age of 14, and role modeled by his parents, teachers and others with their positive mental outlook, attitude and disposition, in spite of the many challenges they faced in their day to day lives.
His yoga studies in India have been in various systems of Hatha Yoga – Ashtanga and Iyengar included.
His teachings are interdisciplinary and focus on devotion (Bhakti) to the practice of stabilizing, balancing and opening the body, breath and emotions as a means to liberate the mind and connect with heart and divine energy (Shakti).
I spent most of my teens and early 20s focussing on honing my music skills (at the Berklee College of Music) and on a successful music career, performing all over the world, and producing music for film and television.
And yet there were many aspects in my life that I wasn't happy about - relationships, physical, mental and emotional states. There came a point in my life when I had to do some serious soul-searching as to the purpose of my life. That's when I decided to make yoga my practice to refine my physical, mental, emotional and spritual well-being.
As I like to say - "I'm blessed to have studied jazz in the US and yoga in India". Right at the source with some really great teachers! It makes a difference!
My teachings stem out of my own experience with yoga as a transformational process – from shifting ignorance, ego, attachment, aversion and fear – based thinking to a more conscious, peaceful and trusting outlook.
Yoga has brought me peace, joy and bliss and has helped live a much more meaningful existence.
My purpose is to help others find the same in their lives.
Yoga has the potential to dramatically change your life for the better!
