Becca saved me yesterday. I’m training for an ultra marathon and my legs are like chewed up meat. She worked on my calves and feet for an hour and I no longer have a limp. She knows the body and how to heal it. Hallelujah and thanks!
Essential Therapy’s “Race Recover Repeat” package proved to be beneficial to my training in many ways. I learned new stretching techniques, where to focus my training efforts, why my body was reacting the way it was to my training, and how to prevent potential injuries. Becca does a great job keeping you focused on your overall health and providing suggestions on how to maintain a healthy approach to training. I’d recommend it to anyone training for a strenuous event.
Becca is great! She gives great education and advice, and I would recommend her to anyone interested in either sports recovery, for fun, or for gifts for loved ones!

Certified Nurturing the Mother ® Therapist
Certified MMP ® Medical Massage Practitioner

Becca attended ICT Kikkawa College in Toronto, Ontario. Although North Carolina only required 500 hours at that time, she felt that this did not allow enough time to learn about the human body. She discovered the ICT program by accident and was impressed with its 2200 hour program. The modalities they offered included Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports and Injury Treatment and Prevention, Myofascial, and Suikodo, a version of Shiatsu.

Becca has since taken Continuing Education courses for Thai Bodywork, an eastern practice that is somewhere between massage and assisted yoga; and Nurturing the Mother ®, which includes not just pregnancy massage but also some fertility, labor, and post-partum work to help the couple through the whole birthing event. She has also completed her Medical Massage Practitioner Certification to continue to grow her knowledge of how the body functions and benefits from massage, and how it can be used to relieve pain from trauma.

Becca's work background includes spas, Occupation Therapy Clinics, and health clubs. Her daily focus is athletic and rehabilitation work, to help people reach their highest potential. However, a varied background allows her to custom tune a massage for relaxation or general health, and she enjoys pregnancy work.

Questions & Answers

If you're sure it's not torn, "pendulum" exercises can keep the joint healthy (lean forward onto a counter and let the arm hang, swinging it easily and naturally in each direction). To keep the muscles healthy, use VERY LIGHT weights for rotation work. Start with your upper arm close to your body and rotate in front of you. Do not increase weight, increase reps. You are building endurance, not strength. For more advanced exercises, see an MT, PT, or OT to make sure you work the muscles that are problematic.

As Corissa says, the Psoas (part of the hip flexors) is a likely candidate for this. Are you also stiff first thing in the morning? Do you walk like a 'little old lady' until it loosens up? Those are red flags for hip flexor involvement. I suggest Pigeon pose (I like this video for a in depth understanding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_zPqA65Nok ) but if that is uncomfortable, you can stretch your leg back from a half kneeling position (like you're proposing marriage). This puts less stretch on it to start, and you can balance by grabbing a chair or the wall nearby. You may have wonky balance for a day or two when you really get it open- that's your body readjusting to the proper length of the muscle and should pass quickly.

Becca is amazing. She literally knew what hurt and was knotted just by touch (and could tell the difference without asking). Worked her magic and I waa so relaxed & relieved! Amazing. Professional. Skilled. Highly recommended!
I use the Albedo100 Reflective Spray while walking my dog, and my neighbors tell me it’s shocking, like seeing a ghost! But I’m glad they’re paying attention!
I can’t say enough how thoughtful and talented Becca is. Hands down one of the best massages I’ve ever had. She takes the time to assess and personalize the service to achieve the desired results. Absolutely wonderful!
