The Center for Conscious Living provides holistic, individually oriented psychotherapy in Ashland, Oregon. CFCL began more than 25 years ago in Chicago as a cooperative effort between Dr. Carol Low and Dr. Stephen Lloyd, and Dr. Low continues the work in a new setting.
Dr. Low has successfully treated chronic pain since her internship in rehabilitation psychology. Working with Drs. David Flemming and Michael Gainer, and studying research on pain conditions, Dr. Low learned about the ways in which chronic pain develops and how it often fails to respond to medical intervention, and she has continued to develop methods that work in helping people conquer their pain. Similar methodology works for functional gastro-intestinal disorders, such as IBS and abdominal migraine, another class of illnesses that are very real, but fail to respond to medicine.
One exciting this about this work is that it is supported by a body of research demonstrating that clinical hypnosis is effective at treating functional GI disorders. It turns out that using an integrative approach, a combination of clinical hypnosis, sensorimotor trauma therapy, and rational emotive therapy, often with adjunctive body work (not provided by Dr. Low), can be very effective for individuals working through traumatic experiences and the havoc they can wreak on human physiology.
My holistic approach to psychology means being outside the mainstream of psychiatric care. It means I focus on you as an individual, rather on a diagnosis. While still upholding a high standard of care, I want to guide you as my client to your happiest and most comfortable, highest functioning self. This means we collaboratively agree on your therapeutic goals and work to create a plan of action that suits your personal style.
The Center for Conscious Living is here to help you achieve your personal goals.
