My Philosophy of Care

My mother developed a mystery disease, and our family consulted doctor after doctor without any real answers. We finally found a functional medicine doctor who helped her improve, then a naturopathic physician that helped even more.

She later developed esophageal cancer, which ended up claiming her life, despite being entirely preventable.

When I started developing similar symptoms (yikes!), I chose to study naturopathic medicine so I could learn how to heal myself and those I cared about.

What You Can Expect On Your First Visit

Chris requires you to fill out an online intake form before the first visit, which he reviews with you at the beginning of the visit. As he scrolls through your paperwork, he will ask questions to make sure he understands your health history, current problems, and expectations.

Then Chris gets out the whiteboard. He asks about your goals and writes down what your ideal condition will look like in six months. After capturing all your hopes and dreams, Chris gives you his projections on approximately how much time and effort it will require to make them a reality.

Chris lays out the options for the annual wellness plan and develops a session schedule and billing plan that works for both of you. He walks you through the setup for his online practice portal and introduces you to the wellness program so you're ready to hit the ground running at your next visit.

Contrast hydrotherapy! Get out two buckets and fill one with hot water and one with cold water. For a sprained ankle, the usual protocol is 3 minutes hot, 30 seconds cold, in three repetitions: 3 minutes hot, 30 seconds cold 3 minutes hot, 30 seconds cold 3 minutes hot, 30 seconds cold Done! The goal is to utilize the alternating temperatures to stimulate blood flow to the area and promote healing. Don't burn yourself and don't do this if you have anything that might cause you to be more likely to burn yourself (e.g. diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia) or any condition that might be triggered by heat or cold. The temperatures don't need to be extreme, just enough for them to feel significantly different.

I'm loving all of these responses, and I agree with all of them so far. My partner used to struggle with palmar hyperhidrosis, and now that it is gone I can safely say that in her case, it was likely caused by anxiety. She went through the Total Body Modification (TBM) Autonomic Recovery Program (ARP), which is the primary program that I utilize in my practice. TBM utilizes a combination of diet and lifestyle counseling and hands-on body/energywork to turn on the body's self-healing mechanisms so it can fix itself. This drastically helped her anxiety in all areas of her life, including her sweaty palms. While I know that life isn't as simple as "cure anxiety", it really depends on what the underlying cause is, and that can be difficult to determine without a one-on-one session with a holistic practitioner. If seeking out a practitioner isn't an option, remember the basics! Drink plenty of water, get good sleep, breathe clean air, eat nourishing food, and have healthy, fulfilling relationships.
