A lot of physical therapists pay lip service to how their exercises are tailored to the person... but I have not found any work that is more respectful of a person’s needs and sensitivities as much as Feldenkrais work. Using the Feldenkrais Method one-on-one, you ask questions with your hands, and listen for the answers. It is a conversation that, when done well, evokes the person’s own nervous system to consider options and learn. You engage a person’s neuroplasticity to help them find the way thru their own organization to move more freely, and with power.
Because Feldenkrais work is an elegant tool to facilitate one’s own nervous system to learn and adapt, it is helpful with chronic pain issues and persistent dysfunctional movement, or posture. In a self exploration environment, such as workshops, the FM is a great tool for gaining an embodied sense of a concept like resilience or compassion.
