Clinical Hypnotherapist, Physical Therapist, Certified Zero Balancing practitioner
Don graduated from the Northern Arizona University Physical Therapy program in 1986. In the late 90's he became increasingly interested in the role of the mind in health. He began taking classes in and practicing Zero Balancing in 1999. Searching for a way to help his patients overcome or have control over pain he discovered hypnosis going for training at The Hypnotherapy Academy of America in Sante Fe, NM (now in Albuquerque). After seven amazing weeks he became a Clinical Hypnotherapist in July 2007, certified by the American Council of Hypnotherapy Examiners, ACHE. www.hypnotistexaminers.org .
His first actual client had a phobia about spiders (arachnophobia). Having the knowledge to work with phobias his professional practice expanded to include a very broad range of issues. He has been continuing his education with numerous two week courses, conferences and every client he sees.
Before becoming a Physical Therapist, he spent many years working with folks who had mental, sensory and/or physical disabilities. That work took place in preschools, institutions, sheltered workshops and recreation programs.
His focus as a Physical Therapist has primarily been with patients with orthopedic, sports and pain issues. He uses manual therapy, exercise, ergonomic analysis and patient education as his main techniques to assist his patients in regaining their function and reduce pain.
Don enjoys being in nature, humor, road trips, meditation, self-hypnosis, strength and endurance exercise, cycling, hiking and yoga. He seems to read constantly. A science nerd in general, he is fascinated by the mind and biology. For fun he writes and takes photos (no selfies). Although he sometimes eats junk food, he is a vegan. Don is an Arizona native. After two rounds of education at NAU, 75 - 76 (Special Ed.) and 84 - 86 (P.T.), he happily returned to Flagstaff in 1989. Don has had a number of orthopedic injuries including fractures, dislocations, a shoulder reconstruction and a hip replacement. This has given him opportunities to use mental techniques, including self hypnosis as well as Physical Therapy and exercise to treat himself.
He really loves discussing, learning and answering questions about Hypnotherapy, the mind and body, Zero Balancing and Physical Therapy.
