Dr. Smulders has changed my life. For 10+ years I struggled with chronic migraines (was getting 3-6 a week), fatigue (had to nap almost every day), and anxiety. I went to doctors regularly but they couldn't figure out why I was getting so many migraines and why I had so little energy. I was so sick and tired of feeling so awful all of the time, so my friend recommended I visit Fiona. Since January I have changed my diet to avoid food sensitivities and my migraines have decreased dramatically (I maybe get 1 every 2-3 weeks), and my energy has increased - I don't have to nap anymore, yay! I have recently been seeing Fiona for acupuncture and it has done wonders for my anxiety. I cannot recommend Dr. Smulders enough - she is incredible!
I've seen Dr. Fiona Smulders a few times now for help dealing with my Restless Leg Syndrome. Right away she honed in on low dopamine levels and coached me to weaving more foods high in dopamine into my diet. This dopamine connection was later confirmed by my MD, who I'm also working with on this. At this point my symptoms have almost totally disappeared!

About me

Thanks for visiting! I am a licensed Naturopathic Doctor with a mission to help others find healing and balance with natural therapies. I teach Herbal Medicine, Anatomy & Physiology, and Fitness & Sports Nutrition at the Institute of Holistic Nutrition, and I am an educator in mental health and stress reduction in Vancouver BC. I am passionate about helping people incorporate realistic and effective strategies into their daily lives to balance and support their mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health to create a strong foundation for healing. My toolbox includes mindfulness techniques, bowen therapy, somatic practices, nutritional advice, exercise programs, acupuncture and herbal medicine. I believe our connection to nature plays an important role in our health and wellness, this is why I offer additional information on my website on the local medicinal plants of the Pacific NorthWest and run local workshops on how to make your own natural remedies.

Teas are a wonderful way to reduce stress. Calming herbs can help settle your nervous system and the simple act of drinking a warm cup of tea can bring you back into a peaceful state. When I'm feeling stressed, my favourite teas to drink are passionflower, chamomile, skullcap, holy basil and/or lavender. In fact, I'm drinking a nice warm mug of holy basil and rose petal tea as I type this :) Herbal Adaptogens like Ashwagandha, Rhodiola and Ginseng can also help reduce the negative effects of chronic stress. Make sure you speak with a healthcare provider to find the right herbal formula for you!
