Many factors contribute to our health. When working with people, I conceptualize holistically. This means that I may use more than one therapeutic modality depending upon the issues a person presents. For example, for those who have a trauma history, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems, EMDR and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy may offer a way to healing. As a psychologist who serves in a pastoral counseling center where all of our therapists are licensed in their behavioral health profession, we are also trained in integrating spirituality into our clinical work if the client desires to use his or her faith tradition as a resource in their healing process.
Sometimes other modalities contribute to that healing, so I like to refer to other professionals who have those skills, such as, but not limited to, those who teach trauma informed Yoga, provide aroma therapy or acupuncture, as well as one's primary care doctor or psychiatrist for a medical evaluation if indicated or to a nutritionalist.
In working with couples, I am trained in Imago Relationship Therapy and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. I also draw from the literature of John Gottman, Terry Real and Richard Schwartz.
A trained spiritual director, I offer spiritual direction/companioning as well as supervision for spiritual directors as services different from therapy.
