About me

Dr. Susan Sophia James is an advanced intuitive, mystic and Doctor of Behavioral Health and Integrated Medicine from Arizona State University. In private practice, she served thousands of students and patients in her healing and sound energy medicine programs and individual sessions. She has conducted research and worked with pain and chronic illnesses and their co-occurring depression, anxiety, and trauma with sound patterns and music. Susan has created sound and music healing programs for immune compromised illness, cancer, eating disorders, addictions, and dual-diagnosis with adults and adolescents. As a contemporary spiritual teacher, seer and intuitive, she established the Sound Wisdom, educational program in 1997.

Susan’s studies in the 1980’s with Shirley Nelson who practiced Tibetan sound blowing and worked as a psychic for the Tucson Police Department finding missing children enhanced her innate abilities. Her lifetime relationship with the dream time and her 17-year apprenticeships with a healer shaman gives her deep awareness. Susan is also a practitioner of sound and singing medicine, author of non-fiction books on energy medicine.

Yes, hypnosis works with situational anxiety and there is more to the story. Anxiety is exacerbated by lack of enough sleep and deep sleep, lack of nutrition and nutritional deficiencies, and stress. It is helpful to use hypnosis with a comprehensive approach.

When a person has experienced trauma it is important to create a safe environment for their healing. Hypnotherapy can give a method to access deeper levels of consciousness that allow healing to occur. Also hypnotherapy can give self-awareness tools that you can use anytime and anywhere. The application of certain approaches to hypnotherapy supports the person at their pace rather a rote system that is not individualized.

Hypnosis for getting to sleep and staying asleep is valuable. It is also helpful to look at other aspects of life which include regular exercise, avoiding caffeine at least 5 hours prior to sleep which includes sodas, tea, coffee and chocolate, not using alcohol to get to sleep, and creating a sleep routine to help cue your body to unwind. It is also beneficial to have a regular time to get to sleep and sleep rituals. Avoiding screen time is necessary as well.
