Biff Collins, L.Ac., LMT, CD(DONA)
Biff believes in the strength and power of the human body.
She graduated from The Swedish Institute in 2009. While at the Swedish Institute she focused her studies on Eastern massage techniques such as Shiatzu and Tui Na. In 2012, she studied Tui Na for ten weeks under the instruction of Master Jeffrey Yuen. Biff received a Bachelors in Health Science and a Masters of Chinese Medicine from the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine here in NYC in 2013 and is a NYS licensed Acupuncturist. Biff was trained as a birth doula by Tara Poulin of Birthing Gently and became certified by DONA in 2014.
Her massage practice focuses on using the combination of Eastern and Western modalities. This combination allows her clients the benefits of techniques that help move Qi and create balance within the Acupuncture channels, with the circulatory and relaxation benefits of Swedish massage. Biff enjoys working with women and the life cycle both with prenatal massage support and postpartum recovery. She also excels in working with her clients towards better postural habits which lead them towards improved health overall.
One of the benefits of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is the broad spectrum of benefits one can achieve. Similarly to my Massage practice my clients range from orthopedic issues to prenatal support as well as postpartum recovery. However, my practice is not limited and can treat anything from Common Cold to Autoimmune disorders.
As a Birth Doula she is dedicated to helping women find power and strength in their birth experience. Exploring all the birthing options available to women and families can be overwhelming, therefore one of Biff's goals as a Doula is to educate women so that they have the birth experience they want. Whatever decision a woman makes about how she will give birth, she deserves to be informed enough to feel confident that those choices are right for her.
During her time studying Chinese medicine she did an externship at Lutheran Hospital labor and delivery learning hands on techniques for labor support. She has had the privilege of attending a variety of births including: natural birth for both first time and second time moms, cesarean section, and epidural births. She was blessed to have a doula present as she welcomed her first child in her home in September of 2014 which gave her a clients perspective on the benefits of having a birth doula.
