It's a rare occurrence to find a young teenager who has heard the word Rolfing, no less knows what it means. But that's exactly when John Shinsato first experienced Rolfing. Worried that he might grow up 'crooked,' John's mother introduced him to Rolfing when he was just in middle school. That Rolfer is now John's mentor and the person who inspired him to learn more about the practice. Solidifying his quest to be the best he could be at helping people feel better in their bodies and improve their quality of life, John was introduced to another mentor – a healer/therapist who helped John learn about various healing arts and introduced him to Aikido dojo – the Way of Harmony of the Spirit – clearing the path for John to become a professional Rolfer.
A man who excels using both sides of his brain, John Shinsato holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Japanese language and literature, and is a music enthusiast. However, his courses were heavy in the sciences and upon graduation from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, John continued his education at the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration in Boulder, Colorado, for an intense two-year course of study that he found to be incredibly rich and rewarding.
When John Shinsato isn't making house calls – yes, he is probably the only Rolfer in Hawaii who makes house calls – you will find him practicing Aikido, Judo, Japanese and European swordplay (his latest interest), and of course, playing video games. A member of the Kina `Ole chapter of BNI (Business Network International), John enjoys working with athletes and other physically active people who want to improve their abilities. His mission in life: At the end of the day, as long as I can help people, I'll be happy.
