Embodied Fitness and Wellness: Functional Fitness Training/MELT/ The Alexander Technique
Learn two simple self-care methods to keep your body pain free for life!
Joy Jacobson has been involved in the fitness field for over 30 years, as a personal trainer, group fitness instructor and certified teacher of the Alexander Technique. Joy is also a dancer, teaches Tai Chi, and specializes in teaching balance and fitness to older adults. Her goal is to help people 50+ to improve their posture, balance, strength, and stability, so that they can stay active and pain free, and continue to do all the activities they love to do, for longer.
Movement is medicine.
No one "technique" works for everyone, but I offer a variety of approaches to help people move more efficiently, with better posture, and less compensation and pain. I work with the mind/body connection as well as with the neuro-fascial pathways, to help people to find a doorway in to their body's natural ability for healing and repair. I am interested in helping people to stay active and fit in mind, body, and spirit to defy negative stereotypes associated with aging.
On the first visit, I will take a health history and brief movement evaluation. Depending on the client's goals and interests, I will suggest an approach that I feel could work for them. We would then do a short intro class.
