“It is in your vulnerability that you find your greatest strength.”
I’ve always been a deep thinker, with an interest in people and an intense curiosity about how and why we are the way we are. I have been passionate about personal growth and transformation for a very long time, with a fascination for the deeper mysteries of life.
Life challenges and addiction issues in my family led me to 12-step programs as a young adult. This opened the door to personal exploration of spiritual concepts, and efforts to gain a deeper understanding of “what’s it all about.” With three young children, I moved to Tahlequah, Oklahoma to work for a book publishing company called Sparrow Hawk Press, which was associated with a school for metaphysical studies, Sancta Sophia Seminary. Over the next several years, I studied intently, learning about Esoteric Christianity, World Religions, Levels of Consciousness, Meditation, Energy Healing, Intuitive Development, and more. I was fascinated and intrigued, realizing that the universe is far greater than we yet understand or can imagine, and that spirituality is an aspect of each person’s life that is often unexplored or only surfacely attended to, yet has profound impact on the quality of their relationship with their self, others, and their world.
I went on to enroll in the local university and spent the next three years earning a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. My goal was to create a way of working that would merge traditional psychotherapy and spirituality, taking psychology back to its roots as the “study of the soul.”
I spent several years doing traditional agency work, continually seeking ways to blend emerging ideas of science and quantum physics with energy work and foundations of spirituality. In 2010, I began a private counseling practice, providing services that expand what is offered through traditional psychotherapy. In additional to my traditional training, I am certified in holistic psychotherapy methods. I am a member of the Global Association of Holistic Psychotherapists and the American Counseling Association and am licensed by the state of Wisconsin as a Licensed Professional Counselor. Additionally, I am a Reiki Master and am Certified in Pastoral Counseling.
An avid learner, I strive to stay current on “best practices” research and to incorporate new wisdom into my therapy work.
Holistic Psychotherapy brings a fuller approach to personal health and wellbeing with an emphasis on finding balance physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Unlike traditional psychotherapy, Holistic Psychotherapy optimally fosters growth and healing by noting the synergistic relationship between all the ways we experience ourselves and the world—thinking, feeling, doing, and sensing. It is a conscious, skillful, organic blending of eastern and western philosophies and healing methods, resulting in greater ability to relate to yourself and others with understanding, respect, appreciation, and joy. Holistic Psychotherapy doesn’t just focus on what’s “wrong”; it supports our strengths and helps us more deeply experience the positive aspects of our innate being. It is my belief that this approach creates the most lasting and profound healing.
