I empower people to build awareness of and break free from mal-adaptive patterns through the power of movement,, mindset and energetics.
I have wanted to help people heal my whole life, and I’ve been a anatomy and psychology junkie since childhood. With a biology and health psychology focus in university, teaching anatomy to my peers all through my degree, leading functional fitness, yoga and TRX classes while working in recreation and health, I have come to believe that the body has what it needs to heal inside. I believe that it is our awareness that opens the doorway to move towards healing. I teach from the inside out, considering not just the physical, but ALL of the aspects that affect how we are in our bodies and minds. So much of how we move comes from what we think about ourselves and about life.
My style of teaching is holistic, and I see yoga and coaching as tools that allows us to step into our Truth. This used to sound hokey to me but as I have learned to speak mine over the last decade, and to live it, not only on my mat but in my life, I can say that being embodied is the greatest joy I have felt. Embodied practices (whether yoga, meditation or any healing modality) are the way to less pain and suffering; they open the door to freedom and peace and with awareness, so much change becomes possible in our lives.
When I witness students being 'lit up' with insight, awareness and integration in private sessions or courses, it fills me with gratitude for the tremendous gifts that yoga and spiritual devotion give us. My style is gentle but firm, inquisitive and promoting self-responsibility and self-advocation. It is one that prioritizes compassion and love as fundamental to truly healing. I provide students with a safe space, an anchor point to begin, a stable footing to grow and feel, and a powerful platform so you can build your Self up in strong and supple ways. I have clients who come to heal trauma and old wounds, as well as those looking to mitigate chronic pain or ailments associated with chronic conditions or injuries, both mental and physical.
My relationship with Yoga was born in 2000, as I was looking for rehabilitation to support healing from a bad lower back injury. As practice became consistent, my back began to feel better, and I could feel a greater connection in my body and my breath. Through an immersive study of Yoga philosophy, I began to look deeper into many areas of my life, and recognized that I had some work to do! It was here that my yoga practice really became a life practice, and living consciously became my mission. Through daily self-reflection, journaling, meditation, studying and truth seeking, I felt an internal awareness emerging that brought wisdom. This intuition is a gift, illuminated through the practice, and I felt compelled to help others discover it too.
Upon completion of my degree in 2006, I began studying with Jennifer Pritchard, completing a 250 hour, Yoga Alliance certified teacher training program through the Ashtanga Yoga Shala in Victoria, BC. Upon graduation, I began teaching immediately at various studios as well as at the University of Victoria and for the Victoria Police.
My study and practice has deepened immensely since 2006, and I have been inspired by learning & studying with many teachers, including: Jeff & Harmony Lichty, Maria Garre, Sadie Nardini, Madhuri Phillips, Deborah Adele, Matthew Remski & Liz Koch. In 2009, I began studying with renowned Yoga Therapist, Susi Hately, and these teachings sparked in me a deeper passion for yoga as a supportive healing modality.
In June 2015, I completed my Yoga Therapy Certification Program with Susi Hately’s Functional Synergy, an internationally accredited school for Yoga Therapeutics. I also completed training in Rhythmic Movement Levels 1 and 2 at this time and in 2016, I completed a one year immersive study program with Deborah Adele in Samkhya Yoga Philosophy and Mind study.
I am a co-owner of Fierce Studios (Fierce Martial Arts & FierceHeart Yoga), a hybrid community blending the arts of Jiu Jitsu, Tai Chi and Yoga Therapeutics under one roof. I am a member of faculty with the Canadian Institute of Therapeutic Yoga, and a volunteer with The Arthritis Society (TAS). In working with the TAS, I help with providing education and resources for those struggling to manage their diagnosis of Arthritis or other auto-immune diseases. Being someone who lives with Ankylosing Spondilitis, I personally know the challenges of living with chronic pain.
I am committed to helping people connect to their truest and highest selves. In one on one therapy work, I dive deep into supporting you directly with your goals and healing, it is all about you! Group sessions often incorporate music, and I love teaching combination classes blending stability, strength and gentle movement while cultivating compassionate awareness. I am available for in person sessions and also for Skype sessions.
I have been fascinated with human beings my whole life. I have always cherished the opportunity to learn about people and how we move, feel, breathe, perceive and connect. In my own journey, I have been a seeker since I was a young teen, looking for truth and freedom on a deep level. My health journey has been tumultuous as an adult and this ultimately, alongside my spiritual quest for liberation, has led me to deeply love supporting others' on their healing path. I studied psychology in University, taught anatomy to my peers while practicing yoga daily and cultivating a deep relationship with mySelf. This combined focus was the birthplace of becoming a wellness practitioner.
