As a licensed Naturopathic Doctor, I use integrative physiology to witness unique patterns, treat the root cause and support daily thriving.
Dr. Amy graduated from National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon in 2006 with a strong foundation in clinical medicine, women’s health and working with people with chronic disease from autoimmune conditions to endocrine disorders to neurological disorders.
Dr. Amy practiced in Palmer, Alaska for 8 years, providing Naturopathic Family Medicine to the community. Working with children and adults, Dr. Amy supported her patients in healing from acute illnesses such as injuries, viral infections and digestive disorders. She provided primary care for many families and children. And, she continued to treat patients with imbalances which had become more chronic and disabling to living a thriving life including cardiovascular disease, cancer, thyroid disorders, inflammatory conditions, and digestive disorders. Working in Alaska, Dr. Amy was able to get to know and work with people from many walks of life, each with a unique story, physiological pattern, and path to wellness. She honed her skills of listening, building therapeutic and healing relationships, and exploring various patterns in her patients and in nature.
With continued questions and a desire to understand and be able to identify and share the patterns she witnessed in her patients in a way that would give them self-agency and the tools to thrive, Dr. Amy completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Endobiogenic Medicine. This also led to her move to California, where she has practiced since 2014.
Dr. Amy’s mind thinks in patterns and in the synthesis of ideas. She is constantly exploring her own patterns, the rhythms of life and nature, and the human experience, as well as delving into the physiology of humans in order to understand why people become ill, and what brings healing.
Physiology tells a story. Having a lens to see the physiology through, which honors the individual and the wholeness of a person, allows for comprehension and an almost poetic understanding of a person’s unique patterns, strengths, and vulnerabilities.
The human body is a complex system designed to stay alive. The patterns each person has to adapting and moving through the world are unique. When the demands on any person are too great or too prolonged, the systems become overwhelmed, their bucket overflows and symptoms arise. The greatest potential for healing comes from understanding how the individual person adapts in the first place, and from there seeing what obstacles are in the way of healing and what needs to most be nourished and supported.
Dr. Amy follows the story of a person through their words, their personality, their physical structure and their labs. She shares the story she sees with her patients in order to empower them. She is passionate about dispelling fear and engaging people in a way that allows them to make decisions from an informed, skillful base in order to navigate life with greater fluidity, less illness and support long-term healing.
She assists patients in getting to know themselves from a cellular to a whole being level; encouraging living in rhythm with their own essence and unique being and with nature.
Dr. Amy, now practicing in California, continues to work with children and adults. She offers Thriving Wellness Plans for individuals and families in order to build the therapeutic relationship that allows for her to utilize her skills most effectively.
Knowing the physiology is the most important step. From there, the tools needed for each individual person become simpler and more precise. Dr. Amy works with plants/herbs, nutrition and lifestyle habits and skills, prescribing other medications as needed to reduce symptoms or support the body in the short-term while foundational healing occurs.
Dr. Amy also offers sound healing and Hands on Healing to support the nervous system, encourage relaxation, give the gift of pause and attention that invite healing.
I have known I wanted to be a doctor since I was 9yo. Life and a strong intuitive guidance system directed me towards a form of medicine that would allow me to incorporate all aspects of humanity in to the healing process. With Naturopathic Medicine, I have the opportunity to listen, to spend time with patients, to provide touch for exam or for healing, to work with food and exercise and relatinships and a myriad of issues that become obstacles or support to living a thriving life. My science brain is constantly challenged and inspired by understanding the unique physiology of each person in front me, why that manifests in a particular diagnosis and how that is showing up in each cell, organ and tissue of the body. I get to move from the micro to the macro over and over again, honoring that the whole is so much great than the sum of it's parts, that each individual is unique, and that sometimes, things are very simple. We are most aligned when we are in rhythm with ourselves and with nature. Figuring out what that means in modern society is often the journey. I am so grateful that life showed me this path as I delight in my work every day.
