My dual training as both a licensed clinical psychologist and a functional medicine health coach help me to understand the various factors that contribute to overall health and well-being. I collaborate with my clients to explore areas where they feel stuck and overwhelmed. Together we come up with solutions to help them move forward and feel better in their lives. In addition to my work as a therapist, I am also a faculty member at UC Santa Cruz, where I teach Abnormal, Clinical, Health, and Nutritional Psychology courses.
My mother is a therapist, so I was raised with concepts that quickly piqued my curiosity about what makes people tick, and what helps them to feel better. Through study, support, and personal trial and error, I have gained clarity to improve my own life, and have a strong desire to pay that forward to help others to lead happier lives.
Before we started, I had a free 20-minute telephone consultation where I was able to ask questions and learn about the therapy that Dr. Cook provides. During the first session, Dr. Cook asked a lot of questions about many facets of my life. She got me thinking about things in my life that at first I did not realize were having a negative effect on me, but later recognized they were important and needed to be addressed. She was easy to talk to, and made me feel like therapy was a safe space where I could just be myself without secrets.
Psychotherapy is a safe place to examine habits and old hurts that often keep us stuck in the same patterns of thinking, feeling and acting. When we can look closely at difficult areas of our life and accept and release the judgment and emotions that are attached, we feel lighter and more open to making positive changes.
