A lot of me in the past few years can be found in the book "Access Health Plan: "The We Can Story".
I am a new resident of the Rio Grand Valley in Texas. Chronic Disease Management is my driver to give back so others can live healthier lives. I have been partnering with individuals with complex needs as their health coach since 2006, I created a "vision board" in 2018 "Incredibly Better Me". To be a better nurse, a better health coach, better wife, mom and grandma and a better person. I strive to reach those goals and keep that in focus every day. God has blessed me the ability to be effective with reaching out to people and better able to understand their challenges. The popular term for people and professionals to use is "barriers" of life. I choose not to use that term. Barriers stop you from moving forward. Instead challenges motivate you to explore opportunities of change and to make better choices to enable you to reach your goals. As a health coach I work with you to explore the options and choose reachable goals and celebrate in those successes. I have had my own losses and challenges in life and those have proven to help me to be a stronger, more understanding and more supportive person and health coach.
I look forward to continue the path of helping people reach their goals through this platform.
As an RN I have been primarily focused on caring for the sick. I had an opportunity in 2005 to change that focus. I began by becoming a Certified Wellness Coach with the Spencer Institute. Next I studied through Institute of Integrative Nutrition and became a certified health coach. I went on to become an International Health Coach and lastly a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach. My journey took me from caring for the sick and "illness teaching" to helping people learning to manage their chronic conditions instead of the chronic conditions managing them. I am so grateful to see the medical community not only focusing on sick care but also on wellness and preventive care with the individual being the one in charge. I have been a Health Coach Specialist since that time.
I see now that I can do something myself and I can make changes with your help.
I am glad I came today.
I don't know why my doctor thought I needed you. I trust my doctor, so I am here.
I understand it is scary to try something new. I appreciate that you are here today. Tell me what do you think working with a health coach means?
