I took Cindy's Women in Motion class when my sister suggested we do a 5k as a family together. I knew I needed to get some motivation to go out and exercise and get prepared for it. The class was just what I needed and I found myself with a group of women who I could relate to. Cindy was amazing and made me realize that my size does not define who I am and I can still be healthy even if I am a larger size. It really helped me with the issues I struggled with about my body image and how I felt about myself. Since the class Cindy has been a great resource if I have questions or need advice about my diet. She has become a great friend as well as a huge supporter of mine.

About me

Nutrition and physical activity are the foundation to optimal health and well-being. However, the fitness and wellness industry can be intimidating (or off-putting) to many people and they may worry that they will have stop eating their favorite foods or engage in hours of strenuous exercise that they don't like. As a result, they do nothing.

My job is to make lifestyle changes easy and sustainable for my clients. I listen to what their needs (and fears) are and help create a nutrition and fitness plan that is realistic and comfortable for them. As a busy mom and triathlete, I focus on quick, easy meals and simple lifestyle changes to help people reach their nutrition and fitness goals.

Having been a Registered Dietitian for 30 years, I have worked with dozens of people who have tried every diet known to man in an effort to lose weight. I've seen many people lose and regain weight multiple times. I've come to realize that dieting does not work in the long run - it may cause a fast, temporary weight loss - but it does not lead to sustainable lifestyle change and the weight almost always comes right back.

For this reason, I went back to school to learn more about human physiology as it relates to weight control and the psychology of dieting. I came out with a doctorate in nutrition but more importantly, a greater understanding of energy metabolism, the negative effects of chronic dieting on health, and exercise science.

One of the key things I learned was that healthy bodies come in all shapes and sizes and that a number on the scale does NOT define health. In fact, cardiorespiratory fitness is a better indicator of risk for chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and cancer than body weight or BMI is. For this reason, I like to help people improve their nutrition AND their fitness level to live longer, healthier lives.

I am also a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor and love helping people stop dieting and relearn how to follow internal cues for hunger and fullness. This way of eating is a more natural and mindful way to eat and it fits well with a more wholistic view on health. Intuitive Eating takes some time and attention to learn but it's one of the best things you can ever do for yourself and I can coach you through the process.

Whole grains, such as oatmeal, with any kind of nut butter, and fresh or frozen fruit (like blueberries) is a fantastic way to feel energetic and keep blood sugar in check.
