Many things go into how it is I work with people, including a 45 year meditation practice. I entered the field of psychology and psychotherapy to help people make the kinds of transformational changes in their lives they so deeply want but have not been able to achieve. I enjoy my life in the Bay Area and take advantage of opportunities to deepen my own life and consciousness so that when I work with others, I have more personal experience of those layers of consciousness to better understand, from the inside, how we make issues for ourselves or contribute to their continuation. I love Jazz music as well as more classic Rock, but I love all sorts of music. I enjoy good company, good conversations and continuing to grow as a healer and helper.
Over 45 years of a meditation practice let me also into areas where I could be of help to others. Having good mentors and an array of my own experience from different areas of life led me to want to be of service in ways that worked. Listening is very important to me . I like being heard and know others do also. Particularly when we are in pain. I was also very inspired and learned from the work and life of Milton H. Erickson, MD.
Many of my clients remark that they felt heard for the first time , or the first time in a very long time. They find me open, attentive, and wanting to learn from the inside what it's like to be the client that presents themselves to me. They are clear in the first session that it's about THEM, not me , and they already have many if not all of the resources, abilities and skills to deal with whatever brought them to see me, only they aren't using them in the context where they are stuck. They also learn that if they don't have such resources,. together, we will build them.
After asking them what they know or have heard about hypnosis, and debunking any misconceptions, I tell them "Hypnosis can be thought of as a heightened learning state where you can learn, on a deeper level, some of what you already know but didn't know that you knew, and where therapeutic suggestions can work on an associational level to stimulate change, often outside your own conscious awareness."
