I have been using Dr Cooper for almost 20 years. In that time, I have known her to be dependable and effective with my spinal/neck issues. While I would consider her adjustment style as "gentle," it is also very effective, caring and lasting. Additionally, her vast knowledge of wellness and aging always translates into meaningful dialog within an adjustment. I highly recommend her!!!

About me

I wear many hats that fall into the realm of health and wellness.. I am a doctor of chiropractic, clinical nutritionist, certified EFT practitioner, a SWIHA-trained life coach, and a health writer and speaker. I combine years of experience and skill to offer a unique form of Wellness Coaching that allows you to achieve physical, emotional and social well-being.. I am a firm but compassionate advocate of you reaching your optimal potential on all levels. I am as perky and enthusiastic as I am serious and academic.

My Philosophy of Care

An injury as a kid led to years of restricted mobility and pain in my neck. I grew cranky, gained weight, and was very unhappy. Against my better judgement, my parents took me to a chiropractor, and that turned my life around! I got better and was determined to help others the way I was helped. My interest in health, nutrition and psychology led to additional study and certifications. I have integrated various healing modalities over the years to not only bring my patients/clients relief but to equip them with the tools they need to sustain vibrant health and well-being.

What You Can Expect On Your First Visit

They are always amazed how quickly they feel at ease. During the first visit, you will share your chief complaint and how this issue is effecting your life. We will explore how the condition developed and map out a plan to overcome it, if possible (it usually is!) or how to deal with it so you can experience joy in daily living. When you leave, you will feel excited that you are on the right path!

My Inspiration

You will be pleasantly surprised how quickly results come when you allow yourself to be held accountable for achieving your goals. It is powerful to have someone listen to you, cheer you on, offer you effective strategies and suspend all judgement. It facilitates exploring your potential and achieving the things that have alluded you for so long.

Questions & Answers

I love the excellent, comprehensive answer submitted by Katrina Cook, MScN. Since there is nothing more I could possibly add to that, I would like to answer the question from a different perspective, that of intermittent fasting. Although people vary as to the number of hours they fast each day, it is very common to constrain eating to a restricted window of 8 hours. Meaning, you do all the eating you are going to do for that day/night during the span of 8 hours. If you stop eating at 6 pm in the evening, you would wait until 10 am the next day to break your fast. If you curtail eating by 5 pm, you would break your fast at 9 am the next day, and so forth. When you do break your fast, it is advisable to refuel your body with healthy, wholesome foods, of course! No junk food or packaged, processed foods laden with unwanted ingredients or unhealthy fats. If you are intermittent fasting, chances are you know that already! So, my advice is not so much what to eat but how to eat it. Eat slowly, reverently, mindfully. Chew your food thoroughly and enjoy the taste, aroma and sensation. Feel it nurturing every cell in your body. I know you are hungry, but don't woof it down like an animal! Digestion begins in the mouth with the enzymes found in saliva. Give the food some time in your mouth before swallowing. Don't dilute your digestive enzymes by drinking copious amounts of liquid while eating either. Chew your food enough so that it is practically a liquid, and then drink your water, tea, or coffee a bit later. Bottom line: Ease into eating when breaking your fast; chew thoroughly, eat mindfully, and recharge with nutrient-dense foods. Now go enjoy that leisurely, healthy meal.

I have employed positive affirmations in my daily life since discovering Louise Hay when I was in high school. Her groundbreaking book, You Can Heal Your Life, taught me to love and accept myself, and I enjoyed the beautiful affirmations she ended each chapter with. I still go back and read those, but for every day purposes, I like my affirmations short, easy to remember, and easy to recite throughout the day. From the very simple "This too shall pass" to, "I am calm, confident and creative," I tailor my affirmations to fit what is going on in my world at the time. HOWEVER, if ever you create an affirmation and you suddenly hear a voice in your head saying, "yeah, but..." as in "Yeah, but I am not disciplined enough" or "I am not savvy enough" or "I am not lucky enough," you have to deal with those ANTs- the Automatic Negative Thoughts that butt up against your affirmations. To do that, I find EFT tapping works best. Here are a couple of affirmations for today: "I can choose my thoughts" and "I choose only positive thoughts today." I think you will find affirmations will help keep you on track and help you manifest what you are trying to achieve. Best of luck!

What causes us to lose out on our zzzzzzzzzz's varies from person to person. Common culprits include stress, ruminating thoughts, anxiety, some prescription meds, alcohol, travel, and decreasing levels of melatonin, the hormone that regulates your sleep/wake cycles (aka circadian rhythm). While melatonin naturally decreases with age, a lack of complete darkness in the room you sleep in can hamper its production at any age! The importance of sleeping in a dark room cannot be overstated, even down to installing room darkening shades and covering tiny blue and red lights coming from your clock radio, TV, home alarm system, or even from an electric toothbrush in an adjacent bathroom. If you are looking for a supplement to aid in falling and staying asleep and you have addressed the obvious physical and emotional triggers, I recommend taking 1 mg of melatonin and 200 mg of L-theanine along with a trio of calming herbs that includes valerian, hops, and lemon balm extract. All of these can be readily found in a health food store, individually or in combination. Take them 30 to 60 minutes before turning in for the night. Happy sleeping!
