I'm already experiencing the difference from the meditation. Like I said, I'm working in a very stressful and negative environment under huge pressure. I was a different person this week, more relaxed and for the first time saw the beauty in situations which normally would have frustrated me.
GOD continues blessing me, and most assuredly he did when he brought Tanya and I together at a charity event last year! Over the years, I've tried different styles and methods of meditation but none "stuck". Then, I was privileged to take the Primordial Sound Meditation Course with Dr. Tanya. Using my personalized mantra, I've connected back to myself in a new and nourishing way. Shutting down the "mishugas" (craziness) of the world twice a day, at sunrise and sunset, using the tools taught in the class, my meditation has become the means through which I can focus and let go! And how sweet to be able to pop in a DVD and do a gentle yoga class with Tanya whenever it suits me. Time is Cows is a wonderful presentation of Tanya's connection with humanity, nature and nurture, all of which she truly cares for, and it shows in her Spirit. In closing, I'd simply say get to know her and all the wisdom she has so carefully and lovingly gathered together and presents in various media.
I want to start off with a thank you! Your book has been an enlightening read and has opened my eyes and guided me to moments of pause that I would otherwise not have come to. Dense with wisdom, it's one I've forced myself to read slowly and thoroughly. As I conclude the book, I find myself more open and aware, especially of my relationship with the environment around me and how I exist within this space. Your questions forced productive introspection, and prompted in-depth conversation for myself and my family. The thing I really appreciated about 'Time is Cows' is how there really is something in there for everyone. A beautiful bridge between two starkly different cultures, not revealing how one is better than the other, but showing just how much we can learn from each other if we're willing to ask questions and be genuinely interested in learning from those responses.

In our first session together we will discuss your expectations for our work together, your current health and well-being practices (if any) and some details about your life story to date. We will also explore your mind-body constitution according to Ayurvedic principles and I will offer some initial prescriptions to address specific imbalances/issues.
90 Minutes   •   $250

Yoga Therapy Session
Learn specific Yoga postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques to suit your needs and health concerns. Therapeutic yoga is particularly appropriate for many chronic conditions that persist despite conventional medical treatment including back pain, headaches, digestive problems and poor sleep; and is extremely useful for people living with heart disease, cancer and other debilitating diseases. Session includes personal practice that will be sent to you after the session.

About me

I specialize in helping people nurture their mental and physical health and find calm in the context of an ever-changing, complex world. I do this by combining ancient wisdom traditions with cutting-edge science.

Originally, I received my PhD from the University of Washington in Sociology and Social Psychology. After that, in 2001, I moved to Tanzania, East Africa where I lived and worked for over a decade. The visionary humanitarian organization I co-founded - Terrawatu – is celebrating 20 years this year.

During my time in Africa, I apprenticed with traditional healers and learned secrets of timeless wisdom and practices that could be integrated into cutting-edge social psychology and coaching techniques, in very practical and powerful ways. Some of this is explained in my book Time is Cows: Timeless Wisdom of the Maasai which won a Nautilus Award book award.

I have practiced Yoga since 1990 and began teaching in 2004. I have studied many traditions both in India and in the United States. In 2008, I met Dr. Deepak Chopra and chose to pursue certifications with the Chopra Center in California. As a Chopra-Certified Master Educator I instruct clients in Primordial Sound Meditation (PSM), Ayurvedic Lifestyles, and the Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga. I am also certified in Yoga of the Heart, with Nischala Joy Devi, for Cardiac and Cancer Therapy.

I return to Africa annually to work on our community development projects and lead Healing Safaris in South Africa and Tanzania.

My Philosophy of Care

My approach is to meet a client where they are at in their lives. We can draw on tools and medicines from many different cultures and perspectives I have deep knowledge of around the world to create customized regimes that keep you as calm, healthy and joyful as possible. I believe that we all have the ability to heal ourselves and that finding the right person to help guide and coach you along the way can truly speed things up.

What You Can Expect On Your First Visit

You can look forward to sharing where you are at in as much detail as you feel comfortable, in a safe and secure environment. We get to know each other a bit and see if we are a good fit.

My Inspiration

My father was a trained pharmacist and had a passion for getting to the root of understanding a person's disease. While my Dad was most curious about the physiological side of things, my curiosity ignited during my first class in Social Psychology as an undergraduate. Helping others align body, mind and spirit in a harmonious way has become a lifelong motivation and passion for me.

First of all, please let me say that - you are brilliant. Your book is inspired and your work is inspiring. You so clearly and accessibly introduced beautiful Maasai concepts that NEED to be communicated to our society. I do not pour praise like this easily or often...but I truly feel like I was meant to get a hold of this book of yours.
I've been a big fan of Tanya's since I met her. She exudes kindness and empathy, makes it easy to open up and speak to her. Her connection to spirit and observance of the human psyche is astounding, and I like how she combines it together with yoga and meditation practice. After taking her Chopra meditation workshop, I felt inspired, elated, and advancing further in my practice than I could have done alone. I'm also a big fan of her yoga classes, both private and also her DVD instruction, and love that she adjusts perfectly to suit my needs at the time. Tanya speaks to you like a friend, but the advice she gives is that of a woman with wisdom and an old soul.
Thanks for your wonderful book. I found it an intriguing blend of anthropology, healing, wellness and self discovery. I hope it finds a wide audience!
