We prefer natural medicine and spend longer with our patients because taking extra time leads to better quality service.

My name is Dr. Vy Simeles (pronounced like the letter “V”) but my patients usually just call me Doctor Vy. I earned my Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and have a Master’s degree in Acupuncture from National University of Natural Medicine here in Portland, Oregon. This school caught my attention because it is the oldest naturopathic medical school in the United States and has a well-earned reputation for excellence. Although calling myself a polyglot may go too far, I speak fluent Vietnamese, basic conversational Mandarin Chinese and am in the (early) process of learning Spanish and Italian with English as my first language.
My passion for medicine begins with my deep interest in discovering the gifts that each person brings to the world. I want every person to feel like they have the energy and motivation to pursue their dreams because I believe that that is how we make the world a better place. One person reclaiming their health can have a positive ripple effect on all the other people in their lives. Healthy people have healthy relationships, build communities, create better environments, and take care of the world around them.
As a primary care doctor, I do have full-prescriptive rights for when a situation necessitates pharmaceutical intervention. However, my passion is in natural medicine and acupuncture. Connecting with patients and practicing gentle, individualized care gives me a feeling of fulfillment. My clinical experience includes treating acute/chronic pain, hormone imbalances, digestive health and providing adjunctive cancer care. The treatment modalities I commonly use include physical medicine, Japanese-style acupuncture, constitutional homeopathy and Neuro-Emotional Technique.
In order to fully show up for my patients, I also practice self-care through living a life that makes me happy outside of work. My favorite ways to exercise are Ultimate (Frisbee), yoga, bouldering and hiking. Other hobbies include traveling, food (making and eating) and volunteering at the Cat Adoption Team Shelter. I am especially passionate about personal development and strive to continually learn or improve every day.
