The art of healthy relating is not something that most of us were taught. In fact, most of us come from households in which good relationship behavior was simply not modeled for us. Yet whatever was modeled for us is most often what we enact in our own relationships — for better or worse. To disrupt these unconscious patterns and unlearn the unhealthy habits we picked up from our caregivers, we must undertake the process of learning healthy relationship skills ourselves. But we don’t have to do it alone.
