Born and raised in Miami, Florida, the early part of my life was spent outdoors, at the beach, playing, swimming, eating fruit picked off of the trees in my yard...all things healthy. My Sicilian American upbringing instilled in me a deep consciousness that "without your health, you have nothing". I was raised in a home that emphasized health and wellness. We only ate fresh fish, veggies, fruit, and meat.
From a young age, I studied dance, mostly ballet, throughout my school years, including college. It was my passion, and I continued to get deeply immersed in ballet, jazz, and modern dance. I actually always wanted to be a professional dancer. Through the dance world, I was introduced to the amazing practice of Pilates.
The years of dance training, gave me a deep understanding of body mechanics, and especially of my own body. Over the years, I was able to use the practice of Pilates to balance and heal my own body. Experiencing the fabulous results of Pilates, I decided to become a certified instructor to share my experience of healing and wellness with others.
Trained and certified through Power Pilates in NYC, the training was very close to the original system developed by Joseph Pilates. His original focus was to strengthen the body from within, to allow the body to heal itself. It focuses mainly on the small internal muscles that all the larger muscles are attached to.
I see Pilates almost like physical therapy. In my 12 years of instructing, I have seen spectacular results in students with severe physical problems.
I hope anyone who is experiencing imbalances in the skeletal, and muscular system, will give Pilates a try.
