I decided to give Katie a call after reading the Yelp review from adriene c. It had been years since I'd been in therapy, and I was looking for a therapist who could help me release some of the old gunk stuck in my psyche. I didn't need more talk therapy, I needed something that healed my emotional body with a somatic approach, and my work with Katie over a six month period was simply tremendous. Katie is very skilled with EMDR therapy which essentially adjusts your brain so that painful memories from the past are neutralized. It was such a simple technique that had profound results, and I'm now a big fan of EMDR! Bottom line: Katie is a very talented therapist who truly facilitated my healing process. She is strong, compassionate, authentic, keenly perceptive, and kind. I completely, totally, 100% recommend her!!
She's an amazing woman! Very calming, wholesome, positive, reaffirming - and investigative. I saw her once a week for about a year for EMDR and talk therapy following a weird attack in a parking lot - she helped me so much. Really comfortable space On Church, easy/nice parking or MUNI or walk or bike to her office. She is a therapist registered with the California Victim Compensation program - vcgcb.ca.gov/victims - so if you have been accepted into this program, she is a great counseling choice, I think. So much love
I posted a reveiw about my last therapist saying that he was the best ever. He was a student and really, really good at what he knew. I got to a point where I needed more, something else, and felt I needed a female therapist. Thru a few phone calls and referrals, I landed on Katie's couch and I now realize that my former therapist was only preparing me for the work I'm doing with her. She uses quite a few techniques that I can pick out but the most important ones are that she's a keen listener, very intuitive and relies a lot on the somatic approach. Meaning, when you talk to her, she will watch your body language as well as listen to your words. She also points out when my voice changes or when I seem to have enthusiasm about something that I didn't notice. She's also helped me release some old tension by getting me to draw it out - I ended up with scissors and a needle and thread creating something that I was ready to get rid of - it was amazing for both of us that day. Katie is a true gift in my life and if you're here, looking her up to see if you should go with that referral you got - call her now. If you're just cruising around looking for a therapist, you've just found an excellent one. Call her - talk to her - let her help you. :)

About me

In my first career as a translator I learned the importance of deep listening and attention to language. My interest in psychology grew out of a fascination with people and cultures, as well as a profound interest in healing. My graduate studies at the California Institute of Integral Studies guided me to a mind/body approach to psychotherapy that utilizes EMDR Therapy and the Hakomi Method as powerful tools for processing and integration. I find both of these methods very effective in helping many clients to process and release difficult or traumatic memories, emotions and beliefs that seem to be "stuck" in their systems. EMDR Therapy helps many of my clients to free themselves from the defensive patterns and limiting beliefs that can result from various kinds of traumatic experiences or emotional wounding in childhood. Clients who are able to process and release these "blocking beliefs" often experience greater aliveness, creativity and fulfillment in their lives. I am grateful for the privilege of being entrusted with details of client's emotional lives and feel immeasurably enriched by our work together toward healing and growth.

I also sought out Katie because of these glowing reviews. I have been seeing her for I believe about three years now, on and off. The amount of growth that I've been able to attain while under her care has been immense. There are many wonderful things about the work Katie does. She is extremely professional, calm and measured. She blends several modalities with a seemingly clear intent to help....and it works. She always seems to know what to say, and I always find myself feeling heard and acknowledged - something that I've had difficulty finding in other therapists. I've only had great experiences with her, and even beyond that, each visit has been utterly transformative and cathartic. Even for the times when I showed up and didn't know what to talk about, Katie tactfully asks the right questions to bring what's on my mind to the surface, and then she listens intently. Katie is truly an excellent therapist, and my life and mental health are markedly better as a result of the work she's done with me.
I've been seeing Katie for just a little over a month now. I've seen 2 other therapists in the past and I can't believe how different she is. She gives me useful tools and is helping me on my journey toward loving myself, being a better partner and and healthcare practitioner. I called her because I was looking for someone in the Noe Valley area with a decent website, great yelp reviews and experience with EMDR (given the mounds of research that support this technique) and I'm glad I did. She's not pushy, she listens well and offers advice when appropriate. More importantly she has helped me to process my emotions in a helpful way. Thank you Katie!
