I receive NSA care regularly and I saw Dr. Katie when I made a last minute trip to Chicago. When I walked in her office I was greeted very warmly. Dr. Katie's office is cozy and clean and I felt very comfortable. Dr. Katie made me feel very safe and set a good structure for the session that we had. I left feeling light as a feather :) Thanks Dr. Katie!

Learn More About Dr. Katie Ray, DC

About me

Great day to you! My name is Dr. Katie Ray, and I want to thank you for taking the time to learn more about my office and Network SpinalTM (sometimes also known as Network Spinal Analysis, Network Care, or Network Chiropractic-- which I know can be super confusing!). In this day and age, the decision of where and how to spend our time and dollars on our healthcare is an extremely important one, and I am so glad that you are considering us.

If you’re anything like I was, a combination of curiosity, desperation, and luck may be leading you to learn more about Network SpinalTM and New Day. The story for me begins In 2005 when I was a poor, struggling, anxious student in a PhD program. On top of it all, I suffered terribly from a long list of physical complaints (neck pain being chief among them).

The people around me at the time mostly seemed like me, under a lot of stress and coping with it in the same ways I was. Still, I felt like there had to be more to life than what I was experiencing. After having had lackluster results from traditional chiropractic care, increasing desperation (and very good luck) lead me to discover Network Spinal while I was living here in Chicago.

Clearly, the care changed my life-- or I wouldn’t be writing to you about this right now! From the very first adjustment I experienced, I knew something else was possible for my health and my life. The world felt different; but I knew it was actually me who was changing. Whoa!!

I want you to know that I had a lot of skepticism about this care in the beginning, and certainly did not think of myself as someone who was interested in a “fringe” or “new age” healing modality. I simply wanted something that worked!

Over 10 years later I remain an enthusiastic advocate for and consumer of this chiropractic care because I know that through having my spine adjusted on a regular basis over time I have been able to live my best life possible-- and share it with you! I graduated from Life University College of Chiropractic in 2012 and opened New Day in 2013. I am certified in Network Spinal to the highest level currently available.

New Day is more than just the name of the building where I practice. It’s more than just me and the care my associate Dr. Virginia provide. New Day is truly a community made up of the collective energies of some of the most amazing, talented, innovative, and fun people I’ve ever met, all of whom derive life-changing benefits from Network Spinal—our clients! Our educational workshops and community events amplify the benefits of the care through wellness education and through building a community that supports health, betterment, energy, and aliveness.

I could not imagine a better city and neighborhood, Lincoln Square/Ravenswood/Northcenter in Chicago, to be living and working. When I’m not spending time with my clients and team at New Day, I love being out and about in the neighborhood and enjoying all that this city has to offer-- including exercise, food, and spending those rare warm days on the beach. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and the practice, and I look forward I look forward to learning more about you.

Shine brightly today,

Dr. Katie

My Philosophy of Care

Growing up and as a young adult, I didn’t know much about chiropractic. What I thought I knew about it is what most people think they know– that it had something to do with getting rid of back or neck pain. That’s exactly what I seemed to need; even in high school, the stress in my life had me feeling lots of pain and tension in my neck and back. So for years, I was seeing a chiropractor, while I was in college, to help me manage this pain and tension. I would go in, he would adjust what felt like every bone in my body, and I would leave feeling better. A day or two later, I’d be right back to how I was before– tense, achey, and stressed.

After a couple years of this, I was preparing to move from my hometown in Wisconsin to Chicago to pursue my dream to get a Ph.D. in Sociology. Several days before my move, I was telling some people I lived with and their friends about my dilemma with chiropractic. Why should I keep going, I asked if all it seems to help me with is feeling a little better for a day or two of the week?

A friend of someone I lived with, someone I had never met before, said to me, “I see a chiropractor sometimes. He does this light touching on my leg and then I feel better.” I couldn’t imagine anything weirder or less helpful than someone touching me lightly to help me get out of pain. Sounded like a total scam. So I filed this information away in my brain and carried on with my evening.

About 2 weeks later, I had moved to Chicago and was soon to begin my grad program. I thought I would be relaxing and enjoying life during this time, but instead, I was extremely stressed and in much more physical pain than usual. For some reason, I remembered what the guy said about the light touching chiropractic. I figured at this point I had nothing to lose since what I was doing before didn’t seem to be helping me and now I was in even more desperate straits.

I looked it up online and discovered it was a thing; a special way of doing chiropractic called Network Spinal Analysis. As luck would have it, there was a doctor doing this work just 1 block away from my grad program! I made the appointment, and the next day came in for my intake. I remember virtually nothing of that first appointment or that fateful first adjustment. I was probably laying there wondering what the hell the doctor was doing, barely touching me, and feeling like I was wasting my money. I hurried out of the office, most likely irritated, and found myself walking down Chicago Avenue in Evanston as I considered my situation.

In between the noise of my typical, distressing thought pattern about wasted money and time, I suddenly noticed something; I felt like I was floating. I felt like I was floating, and everything was happening in slow motion. For lack of a better way of describing it, I felt like I was on drugs. Not only was I floating, but something else strange seemed to be happening. I wasn’t sure, but it seemed like I even felt HAPPY. It was like every cell in my body was doing something it didn’t normally do. Suffice it to say, I had no idea what was happening to me, and I was a bit freaked out, but I knew I had to keep getting this unusual chiropractic care!

I continued with the chiropractic care, and over time I noticed a lot of changes. Besides just my pain levels decreasing, I felt I was able to relax and have peaceful thoughts, and this was helping me in all areas of my life. In the meantime, however, I noticed that I really hated my grad program! For the next 2 years, my chiropractic appointments were the happiest and most peaceful time of my week. Then, I would have to go back to reality.

One day, I was feeling so sad and desperate about my life, I moaned to my chiropractor, “Can’t I just work here?” Her life seemed like a dream life to me and I basically just wanted to be her and live at her office. Her response surprised and annoyed me. “You could become a chiropractor.” Hadn’t she been listening to me all these years?! I was in a Ph.D. program! “How would I do that?” I retorted, irritated. She responded: “You would quit your grad program. Spend a year or two doing pre-requisites to get into chiropractic school, then apply to chiropractic school and then go.”

I left her office and got into my car. Before I had even made it from Evanston to Rogers Park, I had called 3 of my friends and told them that this is exactly what I would do. I was quitting my grad program and going to chiropractic school.

What You Can Expect On Your First Visit

I may be somewhat unusual, in that I was able to sense a MASSIVE change in my nervous system functioning after the very first visit. But that's not true for everyone! The bottom line is that this care, just like anything else for your health or wellbeing, works best as a process (not a one-time magic wand). Tony Robbins himself, who has since become a huge enthusiast for Network Spinal care experienced his own first adjustment as somewhat so-so (see his youtube video where he describes this).

At your first visit in our office, myself or Dr. Virginia will sit down with you, one on one, and have a consultation to help us discover if and how this care could potentially benefit you. We then proceed to a spinal exam, to get some objective baselines for your spinal and nervous system health, and a way to look for progress over time. If it is indicated, we end our first visit with an adjustment. After that, we schedule a follow up to discuss your findings and if and how you would move forward with care.

We received this review from a client after his first visit with us, "From start to end, my experience at New Day was excellent! I felt cared for and heard as I was treated and Dr. Katie was excellent as explaining the treatment plan before she treated me. I've rarely received this level of care with another medical professional and I look forward to returning again soon!"

Another client also reviewed us after his first visit, writing "Until meeting Dr Katie, I have never even heard of such Chiropractic care. I've gone to the initial consultation and had a slight adjustment done- I felt some change pretty quick! I'm intrigued and wanting to learn more. Plus the staff are super helpful and welcoming :)"

My Inspiration

You most likely have NO IDEA how much this is going to help you and I am SO EXCITED for you to find out! Also-- there are SO MANY different types of chiropractic and chiropractors out there. And so even if you haven't found the right one so far (and the right one might be us, or might not be!) keep looking :)

I went to New Day because of various stubborn health issues. A trusted friend recommended it. My immune system is now functioning much better than it has in years. Dr. Katie works with the nervous system and all it is connected to -- muscles, organs, pain/not pain, emotions, thoughts, integrity of the whole system. I feel more grounded every time I leave. Network Spinal Care is a whole new way of working with the mind and body, and you have to want and be open to something new happening. For me, it is! This treatment is so worth your time and energy, and everyone at New Day will help you get where you want to go with your life and health!
