I was recommended to Larry from the Shanti Yoga Shala Studio where I regularly practice yoga. I became interested in Ayurveda, and made an appointment for an hour long Ayurvedic Consultation to discuss my imbalances because I struggle with issues like fatigue during the workday, stress and emotional issues. Prescription medications weren't helping to stabilize my moods. I admit being very hesitant but Larry is extremely knowledgeable about Ayurveda, food, herbal supplements, yoga, meditation, subtle anatomy, and how all of these things can work together to make the body and mind more stable and balanced. Larry is very attentive to your needs as a client which made me feel better and more open to the process. Larry recommended a "diet" based on my doshic reading, (foods I should be eating to balance my system, and ones I should avoid), started me on a regimen of herbal supplements, and recommended yoga poses and daily meditation. Within days of simple changes to times that I eat, cooking differently and substituting foods, and adding herbal supplements into my daily routine I felt physically and mentally better. I felt more calm, more focused, more rested in the morning, more energized during the day. After discussion with my Dr, I've been able to come off of some of my prescriptions as well. I was initially surprised and now am so happy and grateful that I've found such a powerful alternative medicine to feel and live better. I have consulted with Larry and he has answered questions quickly. I plan on making another appointment with Larry as a follow up and continuing my Ayurvedic routine. I'm giving this 4 stars because this is the only Ayurveda Consult I have had and don't have a basis for comparison, otherwise I'd give it the full 5.
This is my 2nd time going to the yoga shala studio. My first time was with Larry in a beginner's class. He explained everything about the practice of yoga and where it is coming from and since we were 6 of us we stayed in the smaller classroom, "Wonderful" it felt more personalized and focused it in your correct positions :). On my 2nd visit, I got to try the class with Jill, with her I was able to understand much better the basics moves and parts of the class. They both, Larry and Jill for sure are experts in their Yoga practice! In general The space has a boutique feeling where you can purchase yoga clothing and more... what else can you ask? The studio is great!!! and I am ready to go back!

About me

Ayurveda. “the science of life”, is the traditional natural medicine of India dating back over 5000 years. It is the medical or healing branch of Yoga, helping to prepare our bodies for long term health.

Ayurveda is an art that weaves natural forces to create harmony and transformation and self-healing from the causes of disease in contrast to treating disease with drugs. The basis of Ayurveda is discovering and maintaining the natural balance of elements in our body which will help keep us free from disease. Ayurvedic evaluation is made through a combination of a complete and detailed history including pulse diagnosis, tongue, eyes, skin, hair, stomach disorders, sleep and diet patterns that will help to reveal underlying factors in the disease process. It is a comprehensive system that includes herbal medicine, diet, body therapies, yoga asana, massage, meditation, pranayama, psychology, spirituality, rejuvenation and revitalization.

Hi Mykala, Are you feeling better?

An Ayurvedic dinacharya or Morning routine: Wake up Early – before sunrise 5:00 – 6:00 AM. Meditate and make an offering to the universe before leaving bed. Drink a glass of water as soon as you get up. Ayurveda suggests that ideally drink water that has been kept in a copper vessel overnight or water with raisins, figs or prunes soaked in it overnight. This practice stimulates peristalsis. This is also a good time for Agni Sara or Nauli Kriya. Splash your face with cold water, rinse the mouth and wash the eyes with cool water. Massage the eyelids by rubbing them gently and exercise them by rotating them fully in all directions. Go to the bathroom. Elimination of waste is important. Wash your hands with warm water. Scrape your tongue with a stainless steel or copper tongue scraper, floss, and brush your teeth using a soft toothbrush. Gargle with a little warm water, salt and turmeric and rinse. Clean the nose and sinuses with a neti pot. Use lukewarm water with sea salt and then swab the nostrils with a little sesame oil. \ Do a self-oil massage, use the appropriate oil for your dosha. Massage the hands, head, trunk and feet. Oil massage opens the pores, softens the skin, helps remove wastes and helps joints and muscles move more freely. Next do your exercise or yoga postures, meditation and pranayama. Bath with warm water, avoid harsh soaps and the use of anti-perspirants, and deodorant with aluminum. Essential oils are good. Eat a light breakfast, avoid eggs, meat, cold milk, yogurt and pastries. Drink warm spicy tea with honey.
