Sabina is an excellent acupuncturist who is incredibly knowledgeable and gentle in her approach. I didn’t really know much about this kind of treatment prior to working with Sabina but after 3 years of her treating me through 2 serious illnesses, a pregnancy and just pure health maintenance, I can’t imagine what I would have done without her. I highly recommend Sabina and know that’s she’s truly one of the best practitioners in NYC! Thank you Sabina for all that you do!

Learn More About Sabina Maez

About me

I am a highly trained acupuncturist. My education, experience with healing, the arts and a life-long connection to nature is the foundation from which I create profound, safe and comfortable healing experiences.

I support the body’s own intrinsic knowledge of healing through Classical Chinese Medicine. I collaborate with my patients in their healing, prioritizing their comfort and well-being. I am a healing arts practitioner and will incorporate Kampo Herbal Medicine, Tui Na, Essential Oils, Stone medicine or Tuning forks into my acupuncture treatments where appropriate.

My dance background informs my extensive knowledge of the body. When the body is in alignment flow happens. Lack of flow and circulation cause discomfort and pain.

I grew up in the mountains of northern New Mexico where I experienced acupuncture for the first time as a toddler with chronic ear infections and later as an adolescent with persistent allergies. I have been a dancer since the age of four. My experience with and sensitivity to my own body provides me with essential knowledge about the human body and imbalances within it.

My Philosophy of Care

I started seeing an acupuncturist in my late twenties who helped me a lot. I suffered from depression and caught many colds and flus throughout my teens and twenties. I would get quite sick and have to remain in bed for a week or more. My immune system strengthened quickly and since then I get sick less often and less severe. I continued working with the same acupuncturist as I realized acupuncture/energetic medicine was a profound way to heal the body, mind and spirit. Every session was different from the previous one and unraveled a little more of what needed to be healed within myself. This is where I began my conscious healing journey. As I went deeper and deeper into my own healing it became more and more apparent that I needed to become a healer myself and share my experience, skills and knowledge with other human beings. Once I stepped onto the path of being a healer I never looked back or wished I was doing something else. When I think back to my childhood experience I see that I was always a healer.

What You Can Expect On Your First Visit

Clients feel deeply relaxed, lighter and with less pain. Often times they will feel so relaxed they want to nap after a treatment. They feel more open, less tight and an ease of movement. Some clients fall asleep on the table while resting with needles and describe a deeper more profound sleep than they receive at home.

My Inspiration

Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine, almost hair-like, sterile, single use needles. On insertion you may feel a slight sensation or nothing at all. Acupuncture is an energetic medicine, increases circulation, quiets the mind and relaxes the body. Needles are inserted into specific points along meridians that run the length of the body. A set of points are chosen per diagnosis, needled and left for a certain amount of time, depending on what is being treated. Acupuncture creates deep relaxation, calm and ease.

Like Stacy Peacock mentioned you can go by their site or a book. Finding a flower essence practitioner is also helpful. Sometimes diagnosing ourselves can be difficult.

Stress can be managed various ways, most important is what works for you. What are some things/activities where you feel your stress go down, even ever so slightly? Things that work for me are nature, the ocean, stones, pets, trees. I also enjoy epsom salt baths with essential oils, candles, soft music. Meditation, Qi Gong, dance and acupuncture are also very relaxing.

When looking to achieve goals one must be conscious and honest with his/herself of ones own temperament. In Chinese medicine there are 5 basic temperaments and each person can be a mixture, though usually having one main temperament. The Wood temperament is very goal oriented and often actually doesn't struggle with setting and reaching goals. other temperaments are not as goal oriented and need to find ways that work with their temperaments to reach their goals. It's a journey of getting to know yourself and what works for you.

I'd had a negative experience with acupuncture several years ago and was hesitant to try it when Sabina was recommended to me for knee pain. But she convinced me to give it another try and I'm so glad she did! She's very interactive and worked with me it increase my comfort. Not only has she helped with knee pain, but with allergies, fatigue, and stress. I really miss it the weeks that I don't see her for treatment!
Despite not being a believer in this treatment, about 5 years ago i was recommended to visit Sabina. I have been visiting her once a week ever since. Sabina loves her work and the results in the patients are evident. Sabina takes complete interest in all aspects of your health recommending various eastern methods. I highly recommend Sabina
I have been working with Sabina for over four years to treat various ailments. Before Sabina, I had never tried acupuncture and she excelled at educating me and making me feel comfortable. She is extremely patient and attentive, and customizes each treatment to how I'm feeling and what my body needs that day. She's also skilled in a variety of complimentary modalities to provide holistic care. She's been able to help my body heal from orthopedic surgeries, and manage stress and anxiety. And, she's super fun to work with! I cannot recommend Sabina enough to help with any physical or mental care.
