After going to Thailand for the first time in 1999, I discovered traditional medicine, Thai massage and Buddhist meditation. It was a turning point in my life. Today, I still go to Thailand every year, I founded and teach a Thai massage training program and am a Certified Functional Medicine Health Coach.
I have a peripheral neurological condition called CMT and have used nutrition, exercise, and stress management to work with it, gaining valuable insight into how the physical and the mental / emotional are inextricably linked.
I use my international experience in the holistic health field, my nearly 30 years of teaching, and my personal journey through a challenging illness, to offer compassionate support to those who are also living in bodies that are not quite cooperating.
I have been drawn to the wellness field ever since I first went to Thailand and discovered, through meditation, the amazing amount of anxiety I was carrying around with me without even knowing it. I knew I had to do something about it and every year I went back to Thailand to get lovingly batted around by my teacher who recognized the western thinking mind that was causing me mental pain. "Too much thinking!!!" he would say while smacking my belly. I appreciated having a mirror to help me see it and through many years of practice, my heart and belly finally began to soften. That's when I started my Thai massage school in 2008.
In 2018 I was diagnosed with CMT, Charcot Marie Tooth, a hereditary neurological condition that has an endless variety of expressions. But at its root, it affects the sensory and motor nerves of the arms and hand, legs and feet. Because I was diagnosed later in life, I don't have nearly as bad as some who have it at birth or in their teens. When I got diagnosed, I realized that I might not be able to do Thai massage the rest of my life and I still needed to make a living. That's when I decided to go to the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy to become a health coach. That way, regardless of my body's condition, I can still fulfill my mission of helping to relieve suffering.
Following the path of Dr. Terry Wahl's, who has used nutrition and lifestyle from a Functional Medicine perspective to completely turn around her progressive case of Multiple Sclerosis, I am using her inspiration and teaching to offer a vision of full recovery from my condition. I'm not there yet, but I'm working on it.
Because of all this, it has become my mission to help others who are also on the path to overcoming difficult challenges and are willing to work hard to do it.
Most people would say I am approachable and kind. They would say that I'm curious about them and ask questions that immediately take them deeper. They will also say that even in the first visit they will have take aways that inspires them to make a change or see something in a new light.
