I went to Brilliant Movement because of the pain in my left hip from an injury. Phoebe talked to me as she worked on me, getting me to notice how different movement feels and noticing what didn’t hurt instead of focusing on the pain. Since my session, I have been more mindful of how I am placing and moving my body. It has become easier to remember how to move pain-free. Thanks, Phoebe!

As an Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement® Practitioner I am eager to share my passion for this method with seekers of natural pain relief and nervous system upgrade. I'm Portland OR based and also work remotely with clients.

Your brain has the capacity to change and become more intelligent and organized throughout your life. As we age we can forget to explore what is possible for us. We end up using old patterns that lead us into conditions like back pain, neck pain and scoliosis. NeuroMovement® uses movement (the language of the brain) to explore and find new neural pathways, bringing forth your brain's innate "plastic" capabilities.

NeuroMovement® provides the conditions to naturally find freedom from pain and discomfort, to unlock your vitality, and to overcome limitations in your physical, cognitive and emotional life.

People recovering from a "brain event" (like stroke or brain injury) have an amazing opportunity to rewire their brains with NeuroMovement®.

Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement® is known around the world for the "miracles" it brings forth in children with disabilities. Children spontaneously start doing activities or functions that they may have been unsuccessfully attempting for years. NeuroDiverse Children with Cerebral Palsy, HIE, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Genetic conditions, Scoliosis, Learning challenges and many other conditions benefit from this work.

I'd love to help you find out what's NEWLY POSSIBLE FOR YOU AND/OR YOUR CHILD.

My Philosophy of Care

I have always been fascinated by witnessing the difference between someone who finds ease and freedom and those that suffer through their lives. I wanted to know how I could help those who suffer. People in pain, people with brain injury, people whose bodies were not doing what their brains wanted them to do. I

What You Can Expect On Your First Visit

Many of my clients remark on how connected they feel with their body. Their skeleton starts to be their support system instead of their muscles "holding" them together. With this new reality comes an ease of movement, a feeling of empowerment, a lightness of step and a glowing in their face and demeanor.

My Inspiration

Having curiosity about what you are about to experience is a great place to start! Being open to the unique way that I work will allow the lesson to be very potent. I want you to feel totally safe so if you have questions or feel at all uncomfortable I address those concerns immediately.

Questions & Answers

Hi Mark! Your question is from months ago now and I'm wondering if you have found a solution to your problem. As a NeuroMovement Professional I have some ideas for you. I understand things from a brain perspective and I would start by considering that everything you do, every tightness you feel, is something you have learned. Whether you meant to learn it or not!! You need to learn an alternative way to move so your system doesn't "need" that pain warning you anymore. I'd be happy to help you with a free, online or phone consult if you are still searching for answers!

You have occasional neck and back pain because your nervous system needs more information/options. In order to get more information you need to know what you are already doing. Slow way down and Pay Attention to how you are using your whole system. How is your skeleton supporting you? Where are you efforting when other, easier, options could be available if you just had more information. I have resources to help you to discover how you can use your brain's innate plasticity to find new levels of brain organization and freedom from pain.

I predict that there are some "missing pieces" in the organization of your movement. Your brain and nervous system control your movement experience. To have feelings of freedom from pain and increase your flexibility you need more information/options about what you ARE doing/moving and what you are NOT doing/moving. For starters I would STOP trying to stretch your hamstrings since you have probably been doing that and it sounds like it is not working for you. In fact, stretching to a point of pain is just teaching your brain that it hurts to stretch and that pain is sending a signal to your brain to protect your hamstring. This protecting signal will reinforce the tightening. A dangerous cycle!!!! I have exercises/lessons that would probably help you but I'm not sure how to relay those to you in this format :) I would recommend finding practitioners of NeuroMovement® or the Feldenkrais Method. Check if they might have class in your area. I have on-line offerings.
