After graduation from the Boulder School of Massage Therapy in 1986, Bob Jantsch returned to Pittsburgh and began working as a massage therapist. After several years in practice, Bob and a group friends joined together and founded a training program. Under Bob's direction this program evolved into the Pittsburgh School of Massage Therapy. Since the beginning the school's focus has been on providing quality training at an affordable price.
During his years in practice and as the school's director Bob also committed many hours to volunteer work to serve the profession. His main focus was on the American Massage Therapy Association serving as Pennsylvania Chapter President, Delegate to the national convention and in many other elected and volunteer positions within the organization. It was this involvement in the AMTA that lead to Bob's involvement in the writing, promotion and eventual implementation of the Pennsylvania licensing law.
After the law was enacted, Bob was appointed to the first Pennsylvania State Board of Massage Therapy and was elected to the chair position at the first meeting. A position he held throughout his first four year term with the board. As a board member and chair he was an active participant in writing the regulations that were required guide the profession and the board. His focus throughout this process was to protect the public as required by the legislation while working to maintain access to the license for all qualified applicants.
Since graduation Bob has maintained a practice, working in many settings including private practice. His focus has always been on deep tissue Swedish Massage understanding that the value of massage comes from the effective communication of touch and not necessarily from technique.
