Meeting with Sharon as a health coach helped me understand that taking care of ME is important–physically, emotionally & spiritually. I learned to pay attention to the ingredients in and production of the food I eat. For example, I buy organic, local natural food whenever possible, and if foods contain high fructose corn syrup, chemicals whose names I can’t read or pronounce, high sugar content, or allergens, I avoid them. My husband recently discovered that he is gluten intolerant, so this also drove my food shopping agenda, and Sharon helped me locate stores and products to address this special diet. I looked forward to our monthly meetings, which I considered “girlfriend chats,” where Sharon shared helpful, educational, beneficial information with me. I enjoyed the conversational approach, and she was never pushy or demanding. We also had time to check in on each other’s lives. I appreciate Sharon’s holistic approach to health. It’s not just the food you put in your body, it’s how you are feeling emotionally, spiritually, if you like your job, are you having family problems, what brings you joy, and what are your dreams and goals. I learned about body types, blood type and diet, metabolism rates, and ayurvedic approaches to healthy living.. Even though I originally wanted Sharon to help me with my diet, she helped me in many other ways, as well. I joined a gym at the same time I began meeting with Sharon, and she helped me understand the importance of resistance (weight) training, not just aerobic exercise. Because of what I have learned from Sharon, I am interested in working to change our current food production system (buy local, buy organic; investigate big business driving our cheap, unhealthy food production). Sharon has pointed me in the direction of better overall health, and I am grateful for this.
