Initial Trager Session (Intake and Session)
What is Trager® Psychophysical Integration? After a brief discussion and assessment as to your concerns, you will be on a massage table (clothed in whatever is comfortable to you), under sheets and blankets with pillows. “At the beginning of a session, the practitioner enters into a state of meditation that Milton Trager originally termed “hook-up”. From this state of mind, the practitioner uses gentle touch and a combination of passive and active movement with the intent of teaching the recipient how to move with less effort. The contact is gentle in a sense; it may be quite firm but is without strain or resistance. Regarding pain, Trager practitioners avoid causing pain, and attempt to contact the body in a way that allows the client to have decreased fear of pain and increased willingness to be present with the full range of sensations. Practitioners are taught to allow a tone of curiosity, playfulness, and effortlessness to guide their work. In addition to hands-on bodywork, clients are taught a series of movements called “Mentastics” to be performed with a certain mental attention. While doing these movements, the client is asked to explore how to move with the least tension and effort possible. The Trager® approach is a form of somatic education. Proponents claim the Trager approach helps release deep-seated physical and mental patterns and facilitates deep relaxation, increased physical mobility, and mental clarity. The founder, Milton Trager, called his work Psychophysical Integration. Sessions are not involved with the diagnosis or treatment of disease, nor do they substitute for medical treatment where such attention is needed. While sessions often provide relief from physical and emotional symptoms, they are not intended to replace the advice or treatment of a licensed physician or mental health practitioner.” Wikipedia For maximum effectiveness, please leave time after each session to enjoy and integrate the new feeling information. Note: When booking online, please choose Initial Appointment which is $90 so we may perform our necessary intake and become familiar with your needs. After your first appointment, then you may choose 60 or 90 minute appointments. And, Additional 30 minute increments may only be added to Initial, 60 or 90 minute appointments.

Learn More About Suuz Martines

About me

I am a creative practitioner in movement education as a certified instructor of Essentrics® L4 With Honors, Eight Treasures™ QiGong, Tai Chi for Arthritis, Aroma Yoga®, 200 hr Yoga RYT, AFAA Primary Group Fitness Instructor, a practitioner of the Trager® Approach and Aroma Freedom Technique. Through much personal change, I share the gifts of movement, wellness, spirit and music with fellow students.

I encourage personal growth and change through individual and group Aroma Sessions as a certified practitioner of Aroma Freedom Technique and also Aroma Yoga® classes, utilizing yoga, polarity exercises and essential oils. I offer unique programs through my licensed character, CoCo Cheznaynay®, Secret Agent of Truth & Style™.

I travel internationally through my apparel company, ScubaDoRag and am a continual student. Latest studies are The Roll Model with Yoga Tune Up, ongoing Essentrics® and Trager® training, a third-year student in ITMI (International Taoist Meditation) and anatomy.

My Philosophy of Care

I am very creative in design, visually, and conceptually gifted. I cut my teeth in Visual Merchandising, worked in film production, designed event and holiday decor for banks, office buildings, homes, and shopping centers.
Always curious about life and why some things repeat, I embarked on my journey for answers and tried many modalities. I was very Type A with many issues mixed in. I became clean & sober in 1987 and quit smoking two years later - that is when I realized I had never learned any coping skills so I sought further assistance through a specialized psychiatrist, practiced One Brain, EMDR and many other methods. I also realized how much is stored in the physical body so I signed on for a series of ten Rolfing sessions, about the deepest work there is to release. When I found The Eight Treasures QiGong, I knew it was for me. Years later I became certified to teach, only one of 46 teachers in the world.
I developed a Secret Agent character, CoCo Cheznaynay® Secret Agent of Truth & Style™ who teaches to own all of Who You Are. As I moved forward, I decided to take scuba lessons and realized a strange performance anxiety and could not do what CoCo teaches. It was during this time, I learned I was traumatized and bullied at a very young age - this is where the anxiety began.
Now I knew I had to either abandon the CoCo project or get good at scuba and face this newfound fear. I did, then saw solutions to dive problems and accidentally developed the ScubaDoRag (now patented) and became a brand in scuba and active lifestyle apparel and accessories.
I added to my skills as a Trager Approach Practitioner, and later when asked to teach Qigong at the YMCA, realized again how anxious I am when "performing". Again, if it scares me, I do it.
In order to teach at the Y, I had to certify in AFAA Group Fitness, then they wanted me to take over a Tai Chi for Arthritis & Fall Prevention class. Then I became yoga 200 RYT, and embarked on the arduous certification of Essentrics®, now a Level 4 with Honors. Latest certifications are Aroma Freedom and Aroma Yoga®.

Questions & Answers

Every time we make big plans for our lives, or set out to change our habits, our subconscious mind is triggered. Maybe a memory from age five taught us not to put ourselves out there. The pride of the pencil box you made for your mom, you found in the trash later that day. So why now, with that hurt, would you want to take a chance on something new? Sometimes, instead of protecting us, our memories hold us back, based on things that are no longer true. And, if the subconscious feels like big changes aren’t safe, we get resistance which can show up as procrastination or self-sabotage. Is there a voice we hear that says, “I can’t”? Your voice or that of a bully? The subconscious mind can derail our plans under the guise of “protection”. Memory is the faculty of the mind by which information is encoded, stored and retrieved. Vital to experiences and related to limbic systems, it is the retention of information over time for purpose of influencing future actions. Memory is not what happened but a prediction of what we think will happen. Memories have the purpose to learn, a prediction of what we think will happen - good and bad. Fear with memory prediction is Fear Conditioning - there for our protection but it sometimes gets in our way. How are emotions made? Our brain takes in everything and converts into image. Memory is more than an image – it is much more complex - a Memory Complex that consists of Memory, Feeling, Thought, and Bodily Sensations. As we smell the essential oils, we break apart the memory, then we don't remember or associate the same way with that thought. Normally memory is past, and its purpose is to influence future action. A recent study states, 1. “Neurobiologists at the University of Toronto have identified a mechanism that allows the brain to recreate vivid sensory experiences from memory, shedding light on how sensory-rich memories are created and stored in our brains. Using smell as a model, the findings offer a novel perspective on how the senses are represented in memory, and could explain why the loss of the ability to smell has become recognized as an early symptom of Alzheimer's disease.” With bad experiences, our hippocampus converts Short Term into Long Term memory.
An implicit, encoded example is, “People don't like me. I should just keep my head down and not connect.” Whereas, an explicit, impaired example would be, “I was bullied.”
We can't store memory if we can't process. If we cannot process, store and file, the memory retriggers the amygdala - Fight, Flight, or Freeze.

The Aroma Freedom Technique works on changing that inner voice. It helps you identify and release what is holding you back. Using specially formulated blends of essential oils, we can transform those negative beliefs and emotions and intentionally integrate your efforts towards lasting change. “… when inhaled, essential oils directly enter our limbic system, our emotional brain, where traumatic and upsetting experiences of your life are noted and catalogued into your body’s memory. The unpleasant or disturbing memories may be temporarily lost to your conscious mind, but they are permanently etched into your subconscious and cellular memory. Traumatic experiences recorded within our consciousness, exist as living, buried memories. When unresolved, they can create obstacles to your life’s happiness, judgement, and success in many areas—domestic, personal, social, and career-wise. Through AFT you can discover your inner thoughts and feelings that block your success and personal fulfillment, on any and all levels—professionally, domestically, financially, or personally by directly addressing your limbic brain through the vehicle of certain aromas. You can be clear and free from the hidden bondages that limit your success in life.” David Stewart, PhD “When faced with a task that makes us feel anxious or insecure, the amygdala — the “threat detector” part of the brain — perceives that task as a genuine threat, in this case to our self-esteem or well-being. Even if we intellectually recognize that putting off the task will create more stress for ourselves in the future, our brains are still wired to be more concerned with removing the threat in the present. Researchers call this “amygdala hijack.” By Charlotte Lieberman Why You Procrastinate (It has Nothing to Do with Self-Control) NY Times, March 25, 2019. But we can also reach the amygdala by our powerful sense of smell through pure therapeutic essential oils that can break up a memory complex previously associated with negative thoughts, feelings, and memories. We can gently shift awareness and clear patterns related to issues, work, relationships, children, habits, parenting, etc. to initiate a positive outlook and attitude. Aroma Freedom was developed by Dr. Benjamin Perkus, a clinical psychologist who has integrated over two decades of clinical experience with as many years of work with essential oils into this modality. It is simple and the results are powerful. Guidance through the steps can uncover and replace emotional patterns and beliefs that may be blocked. Our olfactory nerve connects directly to limbic system and can calm down the amygdala and break up the memory complex. In sessions, there may be delightful surprises by some of the memories that come forth and realizations of how they made sense then, but do not serve us now.

I have taken both yoga & Essentrics classes from Suuz & have experience great benefits from both! Suuz has some great insights into yoga bring her extensive training in various movement techniques to enhance the experience. Suuz’s Essentrics class includes both movement, flexibility & some strength aspects in a gentle manner that has benefited me greatly beyond my yoga practice! Both highly beneficial & highly recommended!
Suuz helped me to achieve my goal of communicating in an honest and timely matter with my spouse. I had not participated in Aroma Freedom Technique sessions before and did not know what to expect. Suuz was very attentive and gently guided me as we discussed emotional barriers to reaching my goal. She expertly recalled my own words to help shape my affirmations. In a short period of time, I was able to break through some long standing negative energy. I thank Suuz Martines for her integrity and passion for healing and for introducing me to a “new” way of being.
I am a student in the Tai Chi Fall Prevention Class for seniors taught by Ms. Suuz Martines at the Simmons YMCA. I have been a member of this class from the time it began about a year ago. Ms. Martines always directs her teaching to the purpose of the class, fall prevention, and engages the participants to pay careful attention to the Tai Chi movements that are most productive to this end. She likewise pays attention to how we best learn and to our interest (i.e., reviewing, reinforcing, answering questions). She is a very dedicated teacher to the cause, and l have enjoyed being a student in her class.
I was planting flowers outside. My hands were full when I tripped on the board I had on the sidewalk where I was putting dirt and plants, causing me to fall backwards. The fall was so slow and controlled, I fell like a feather on the sidewalk and was not hurt at all. I attribute this to the Tai Chi and Eight Treasures QiGong I have been doing with Suuz for several years. I have never fallen like that before.
Suuz is an excellent teacher & brings her unique experience & expertise in a wide variety of movement classes such as yoga, essentrics & tai chi to each class. I personally have benefitted greatly by Suuz’s unique insights into how the various movements help us get healthy, more flexible, stronger, & experience wellbeing through movement. I find that it’s more beneficial than PT at a fraction of the cost. I have been taking yoga, fusion & pilates classes for over 8 years with a wide variety of instructors but have found Suuz to be the best. Her classes are extremely beneficial, fun & have helped me overcome a variety of back, shoulder & leg issues. Thanks to Suuz’s instruction, I am much healthier at 60 that i was in m 50’s! I highly recommend Suuz Moves!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the Qi Gong class today!!!!! Thank you Suuz Martines! IT was a beautiful thing to watch and learn – and the positive, healing energy in there was tangible. What a great experience.
We first met Suuz at the YMCA where she was our instructor for a yoga class. We especially love her Essentrics and Qi Gong 8 Treasures Classes — Suuz is wonderful! Knowledgeable and full of spirit and passion, she guides us through the stretching, strengthening, and centering of these various practices with an expert, gentle, humorous, and patient hand. We cannot recommend Suuz and her classes highly enough!
My husband and I are taking our first Tai Chi/Essentrics class with Suuz and we are extremely happy that we found her! Each new class builds on the last and Suuz’ instructions consider our physical limitations while improving our balance, flexibility and peace. Suuz not only teaches us the moves at our own pace but she explains the tai chi principles and physiology behind each move. This makes it easier and more enjoyable for us to learn and remember the moves. Suuz takes us through each move step-by-step while she demonstrates from the front and side to help us learn. And her studio is perfect! We can’t recommend Suuz highly enough!
