Chinese medicine can reach the body's own healing potential where other medicines have failed. I show my patients the most effective way to restore balance and achieve their optimal health, by working on the immediate imbalance and underlying factors. This approach allows my patients to make the necessary lifestyle changes to achieve optimal wellness. I am passionate about helping my patients and take a thorough and holistic view of each patient. Well known for her positive attitude and caring manner, my patients know that I truly listen to their concerns and am committed to achieving their wellness goals with a combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutrition and exercise thus restoring balance in body and spirit.
It is truly an honor to study this medicine, and to bring it to the lives of my patients."
Dr. Sheila Scott is an State of Florida Licensed Acupuncture Physician who obtained her Master of Traditional Oriental Medicine degree, while also obtaining her Bachelor of Professional Sciences degree from the Florida College of Integrative Medicine in Orlando, Florida. She is also certified in Chinese herbal medicine and Injection Therapy using Homeopathic medicine, and completed separate clinical internships for each modality - acupuncture, injection therapy, and Chinese herbs.
She is board certified in Chinese Medicine by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM.) She also has certifications in Pulse Diagnosis from the Dragon Rises College, with Dr. Brandt Stickley, AP, DOM and Acu-Detox through the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA), whose mission as a not-for-profit training and advocacy organization, is to encourage community wellness through the use of a standardized auricular acupuncture protocol for behavioral health, including addictions, mental health, and disaster & emotional trauma. Members work to improve access and effectiveness of care through promoting policies and practices which integrate NADA-style treatment with (other) Western behavioral health modalities. The NADA 5-point ear acupuncture protocol has been carefully developed and extensively tested.
Sheila is also a State of Florida Registered Chiropractic Physician Assistant, and has completed over hundreds of required hours of post-graduate studies in the field of patient management.
Combining her extensive knowledge of acupuncture, Chinese herbs, injection therapy, tension therapy, neuro-acupuncture, tension points and the body's anatomy, with her experience in public education and programming, Sheila specializes in orthopedic problems related to the musculoskeletal system, in addition to headaches (migraines), PMS, menstrual problems, fertility, pre-birth treatment, peripheral vascular neuropathy, skin problems, insomnia, tremors, carpal tunnel, anxiety, post-natal depression, Reflex Symplex Dystrophy, Raynaud's Disease, and pain management. She practices Sports Medicine Acupuncture, which incorporates principles from traditional Chinese Medicine and western sports medicine to view the patient's injury from a truly integrated perspective. Dr. Scott enjoys working with patients who suffer from work, sports and orthopedic and chiropractic related injuries. She provides effective, drug-free relief to individuals who are experiencing pain in their bodies due to stress, trauma, poor posture or repetitive use injuries.
Due to her interest in pain management, Sheila also works with car accident victims to help them manage their acute and chronic pain through muscle trigger points. Early proper treatment is key to a successful outcome after suffering a traumatic injury. Sometimes people experience pain in their bodies for other reasons than those listed above. Dr. Scott treats all types of pain and enjoys helping people become pain-free. She often treats painful conditions like fibromyalgia, arthritis, scoliosis, bulging/herniated discs, and premenstrual cramps.
Patients often have more than one complaint when they present themselves to a healthcare provider. For instance, people who are experiencing pain in their bodies may also have anxiety, depression and/or insomnia. Or they may also suffer from seasonal allergies or hot flashes due to menopause or have some other type of health issue. Chinese medicine has a lot to offer these patients, and Sheila is highly trained to treat many health problems alongside her pain management skills. She incorporates acupuncture, Chinese herbs, Chinese Tui-na massage therapy, and homeopathic remedies in order to deliver natural medicine that is safe, drug-free and EFFECTIVE!
Dr. Scott is also a fitness enthusiast, enjoying yoga, white-water rafting, TRX, snow-skiing, and spending time in nature. She says, "Taking a walk on the beach or a hike through the woods fulfills me on every level - body, mind, and spirit. It clears my mind and energizes me. I feel calm, centered and alive when I see a beautiful sunset, smell the green of the forest or view another animal in its natural habitat. I feel the deep powerful presence of life when I spend time in nature. It truly inspires me and rejuvenates me."
I was inspired by my (at the time) future spouse who is a Doctor of Chiropractic. I also saw the health benefits of how the body’s innate structure and chemistry are part of self healing.
