About me

SUSAN WEIS-BOHLEN is a full-time Ayurvedic consultant, and pre-COVID, taught cooking, meditation, and led sacred site tours, mostly in India. Susan’s journey into the Ayurveda began with panchakarma (ayurvedic cleanse) at The Chopra Center. What began as the release of damaging toxins and personal difficulties eventually grew into an impassioned vocation. She has since studied with the best teachers of Ayurveda, both in the US and in India.
In 2004 Susan opened Breathe Books, a metaphysical bookstore, in Baltimore, and in 2012 she added an Ayurvedic/vegetarian café. After 10 years of running the shop, Susan decided in 2014 to close the store and café and concentrate fully on her Ayurvedic practice. Susan received her first certification in Ayurveda from the Chopra Center in 2008. She has since studied with Dr. Vasant Lad in New Mexico and India and is certified in Ayurvedic cooking from Amadea Morningstar. Susan's first book, Ayurveda Beginner’s Guide: Essential Ayurvedic Principles & Practices to Balance and Heal Naturally, came out in February 2018, has sold over 30,000 copies, and has been translated into 4 languages. Her new book, Seasonal Self-Care Rituals: Eat, Breathe Move and Sleep better according to your Dosha, was published in December 2020 by Simon & Schuster. Susan lives with her husband Larry and their two dogs, Ella, and Joonie (a rescue from Pune, India), in the woods in Reisterstown, Maryland just outside of Baltimore City.

My Philosophy of Care

Ayurveda is an individualized science of life. I take into account your personal preferences and lifestyle when working with you to create a doable plan. Beginning with food, we will explore what serves you and what doesn't and we will make shifts accordingly to help you gently and efficiently achieve your goals. We will also use tools from meditation and yoga to create a complete healthcare package.

What You Can Expect On Your First Visit

You will complete a dosha quiz and an evaluation form before we meet. This will give me a guideline to work from about your chief concerns, current state of health, and your history. We will talk about 45 minutes so that I can get a good feel for your needs and then we will begin to design your individualized plan of action.

My Inspiration

Ayurveda was the one and only modality that enabled me to lose weight and keep it off (since 2007) while addressing emotional and spiritual needs as well. I have come to learn that the weight was just a symptom and my needs and emotional healing were only accessible after I dealt with that. 60 pounds and 14 years later, Ayurveda continues to inspire me to live my life to the fullest and to help others find their path to happiness and wellbeing.
