Dr Julia Ward is a champion for the healthcare of busy stressed out moms. Her own issues with hormone imbalances and chronic fatigue spurred her to complete a study of functional medicine. This is a more holistic way of approaching health that looks for the root causes of symptoms rather than just treating a diagnosis with a prescription. As a working mom with five kids she knows what it feels like to be overwhelmed with fatigue, stress, and other changes that happen with age. Dr Ward has been able to bring balance to her own health as well as to those of hundreds of her patients. She completed her fellowship with the Metabolic Medicine Institute (also know as A4M) and continues to study with the Institute for Functional Medicine, the International Peptide Society, and a variety of other organizations and functional labs. She graduated medical school from the University of Southern California and has been practicing medicine for over 25 years.
When I was 45 I began to have extremely low energy and brain fog. I tried finding answers through traditional medicine and came up short. I was told that what I was feeling was "just a part of getting older". I started to research bio-identical hormones and came across functional medicine. This made so much more sense to me than traditional medicine. I have been learning and practicing this ever since and have helped not only myself but hundreds of people reverse chronic disease and live more energetic lives.
We go over what you have been going through and how it has affected your quality of life. We then discuss options going forward. People always come away from the first meeting with a lot of information and hope.
Functional medicine is a more wholistic way of looking at your health. It looks for the root cause of illness rather than just giving you another prescription to mask symptoms. Think about if your car had a "check engine" light on. If you take it to the mechanic and he just resets the light rather than fixing the problem - eventually the car will break down. Similarly, if you are told that you have high blood sugar or high blood pressure and are then given a pill to bring it down - eventually you are going to have other health problems if you don't fix the underlying cause.
