My name is Ryan Cooney, I am a healthcare professional with a specialty in trauma therapy. I love the work I do. I feel like it flows out of the person I am and the personal work that I have done. I live in the mountains of Golden Colorado. My life has come a long way from where I've been and I've been blessed with a beautiful space to work and amazing people to work with. When I'm not working you might find me outdoors on a hike or curled up with a book. My life is all about balance between learning, working, and playing. It's been a journey in my own personal growth that inspired me to become a wellness professional. I've experienced the cracks and brokenness of our healthcare system and the limited views provided by mainstream medicine. As I've been learning to help others I've experienced the healing and connection that I wish to share with others.
They describe it as a very invitational, safe, and welcoming experience. There is a gentle mixture of sharing their personal stories and struggle, with education about the somatic experiencing model, and diving into experiencing some of the principles of the model. Every session is tuned to what the individual's nervous system is presenting and needing at the time. Whether that is to share and experience empathy, to settling into a more grounded and safe experience in the present, or mobilizing to engage and experience a more active and capable response to a past experience.
Somatic experiencing (SE™) is an incredibly powerful approach to healing trauma. SE™ doesn't view trauma as a disease or condition, but rather something that has happened to you that has forced you to adapt. You didn't have a choice when you experienced the overwhelming event/s, but through the principles of SE we can help your body recognize safety, build a greater capacity for stress, and build a better way to experience life in the present.
