I'm a massage therapist who specializes in visceral manipulation to help improve and aid healthy digestion.
Being involved in a health and wellness profession, I find a lot of overlap into my personal life. I love staying active - running, boxing, and yoga are some of my favorite activities. Walking my two dogs also brings me joy! Furthermore, I enjoy continuously learning about my profession, whether it be through continuing education classes or swapping techniques with fellow therapists.
Never content to just sit, I knew from an early age that I wanted a profession that was active and helped people in some way. When my college roommate began studying massage therapy, I eagerly became her 'dummy body' for practice. Before long, I was hooked. That was in the early 2000's, and I haven't looked back since! I get joy and fulfillment out of helping people lead more pain-free lives!
After a thorough intake, gentle assessment is performed throughout the whole of the abdomen. I specifically look for reduced organ movement, tissue restrictions, inflammation and swelling, and general tenderness. The first session is about identifying areas of dysfunction and taking the gentlest approach possible to see if changes can be made.
A lot of external stressors can affect the way our digestive system functions. From stress and food sensitivities to motor vehicle accidents and postural patterns, many factors can lead to inflammation, fascial adhesions, and reduced organ motility. Visceral manipulation is a gentle method of removing these obstacles so the digestive system can function at its best.
