Reiki is a form of energy medicine therapy. From stress, chronic pain, brain fog, to other conditions, Reiki has been used to help shift the energies of people to more and remove blockages in Ki and promote wellness. But what are the effects and benefits of Reiki?

In this article, we are going to explore the what effects and benefits you may experience if you choose to try Reiki therapy.

Effects and Benefits of Reiki

As we go through the effects and benefits of Reiki we are going to explore four aspects of the therapy:

  1. Relaxation

  2. Restorative properties

  3. Psychosis Challenges

  4. Cleansing crisis

Relaxation

When a person chooses Reiki therapy a choice is made to put self-care, health, and wellness first. Essentially this report by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine found that for many who have used Reiki, after sessions, deep relaxation follows.

This profound level of deep relaxation can be a part of the reason why Reiki works for and can be beneficial for health symptoms like:

  • Pain

  • Nausea

  • Fatigue

Restorative Properties

After a Reiki session or even during it, you may feel one or more of the following symptoms or feelings as energy blocks are shifted:

  • Warmth

  • Tingling

  • Sleepiness

  • Refreshment

  • Reduction in other symptoms that have been causing you difficulty or challenges

Some practitioners classify these benefits and positive effects of Reiki energy therapy as restorative properties. Why? Possibly because when these feelings are experienced, it is because the shifts in a person's energy and Ki is clearing and shifting. This shift can help a person feel more aligned and restored to take on the challenges of day-to-day life because they are experiencing progress in their overall health and wellness.

Psychosis Challenges

Reiki is similar to hypnotherapy in the fact that it is considered safe. But like the side effects of hypnotherapy, practitioners who practice Reiki, recommend people who live with different mental conditions or a family history of mental conditions like:

  • Depressive illness

  • Psychosis

  • Schizophrenia

  • Hysterical disorders

Does it mean that if you live with one of these conditions or have a family history of such conditions that you absolutely cannot try Reiki? That you cannot also benefit from the positive effects of Reiki? No, it is not. Not using it is a suggestion that it is not used. But if you want to try it, first communicate openly with the following people:

  1. Reiki practitioner

  2. Physician doctor

  3. Psychologist

Connecting each of these people in your wellness and health team, and keeping communication open will help you choose the best type of therapy and treatment option for you based on your individual health needs.

Cleansing Crisis

Through the span of time and experience with treating different people with Reiki energy therapy, practitioners have coined the term, 'cleansing crisis.' This is an effect of Reiki that is important to understand so that as you receive treatments, and if it happens to you. So what is a cleansing crisis in relation to Reiki? When the energy begins to shift within a person the cleansing can occur. This can lead to the following four experiences:

1. Weakness

2. Tiredness

3. Headaches

4. Stomachaches

Why does this cleansing crisis happen to some? The belief and thought that Reiki practitioners and trainers hold is that it is experienced because through the energy work the body is releasing toxins. So what should you do it you experience a cleansing crisis after Reiki therapy?

3 Things to do for a Cleansing Crisis

Here is a list of three things that you could do if you find yourself experiencing a cleansing crisis:

  1. Rest

  2. Drink water
