Asthma and Wellness Chiropractic
Why every asthmatic should be under chiropractic care
As a parent of an Asthma sufferer I have been frustrated with options to help my daughter. At the age of 5, my daughter Jordyn developed asthma shortly after her vaccinations for school. Her specialist was very convincing that we had to use medication for her asthma because the condition could threaten her health and possibly her life. Frightened for my daughter’s health, my wife and I tried everything including air purifiers, special bedding, inhalers, steroids, and various medications, but nothing helped. She was hospitalized twice, frequently missed school plus she experienced side effects that I didn’t like (rapid heart beat and insomnia). The American Lung Association states, “Asthma is one of the leading causes of school absenteeism; in 2008, asthma accounted for an estimated 14.4 million lost school days in children with an asthma attack in the previous year.” There had to be a better way.
As a chiropractor I decided to increase my daughter’s adjusting frequency to three times a week. This is where the magic happened. We were able to get her completely off her medication and her health dramatically improved. How did chiropractic help my daughter’s asthma?
Asthma Improved by 70%
In 2004 the Journal of Orthopedic Surgery did a study of 3,013 patients with bronchial asthma and found they were able to “alleviate bronchial asthma and allergies by improvement of neurology causes by narrowed intervertebral foramina of T2-T4 and T8-T10 nerves. Asthma patients improved by 70%.”
Asthma Improved by over 90%
A 1989 study published in the Holland Medical Journal revealed that 92% of families that used chiropractic care for their children experienced benefits for their asthma.
Another study by the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research of 81 asthmatic children reported an improvement in 90.1% after being under chiropractic care for 60 days with ages ranging from 1-17 years of age. The number of asthma “attacks” decreased by an average of 44.9% and 30.9% decreased their medication by 66.5%. The authors concluded that “Chiropractic care, for correction of vertebral subluxation, is a safe, non-pharmaceutical health care approach which may also be associated with significant decreases in asthma related impairment as well as a decreased incidence of asthmatic `attacks.’”
